Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 41May 20, 2014 11:00 am Well after nearly 8 weeks of inaction, we finally sacked our original demolisher and engaged a new company who got the job done in eaxactly 8 days (from engaging them to completion of works). One question on what a clean site means, after the demolition, i'm coming across bits of broken glass some the size of business cards or smaller. I have already collected about half a bucket of these glass fragments and discover more each day. Is this to be expected or have they been sloppy? Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 42Jun 10, 2014 10:56 am Spoke to soon. I thought we had it all sorted. The demolition company can no longer do our job which was scheduled for next week! So now have to scramble and find someone else to quote and do the work (we weren't happy with the other two quotes we had) Any recommendations or suggestions (Sydney based)? Thanks in advance! Generally they will use what's called a sieve bucket to clean the top layer. This will generally only remove large debris and bricks that can't fit through a 90mm grate. I was left with bits and pieces like that too. You can't avoid it Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 44Jun 13, 2014 10:50 pm I'm expecting weird stuffs like barbie dolls heads to turn up after my demo, I think my yard was used as a dump at one point. Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 45Jun 14, 2014 6:40 am Lmao trixie.... You might find yourself becoming a collector. I found a couple of nice bottles and then some of the old steel coke and fanta cans but the demo guy crushed them Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 46Jul 30, 2014 2:22 pm I'm a new member starting the process of knocking down and building at a coast house close to Kiama. This is a great forum and I've already found many useful tips that I'd not even thought about. We have an existing 1950s fibro cladding (with asbestos) house which is not unusual for the area. Any recommendations for a reliable demolition company? Any to avoid? Thanks Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 47Jul 30, 2014 10:27 pm Coast2house I'm a new member starting the process of knocking down and building at a coast house close to Kiama. Thanks I don't have any recommendations for your area, but i would strongly advise you to speak to recent clients and see for yourself how they leave the site when finished. Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 49Sep 06, 2015 5:32 am Help please! Uncapped sewer& storm water. We were recommended a demolition company by a friend. We proceeded with the demo but have just found out they didn't cap the sewer or the storm water! We are also struggling to get a copy of the asbestos clearing certificate. We are building with a major builder. Do we try & get a plumber to find the points & cap them? Or do we just tell them that the demo guy stuffed up? The demo guy said that he'd never capped the sewer before in all his years of demolition (40 ish). It's a requirement in your building contract. I was told that you can get a plumber to cap it off. Also someone told me that you can cap it off yourself, not to hard to do. Can buy the caps from Bunny. I haven't done it before. Which demo company did you use? We currently selecting demo company. Would appreciate knowing which one you used instead it's one that we looking at using. Thanks. Re: Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demoli 51Sep 10, 2015 7:36 am Thanks! Found a plumber to do it yesterday. Waiting on the sewer plans from city west water & storm water plans from council so that he can proceed. As far as our demo company goes. We were referred by a friend. He did a good job, but broke a window next door (we've paid for this) & we're still chasing the asbestos certificate. If your still interested I'll pm you the name. Did you do it before or after demolition? My builder requires me to do that as wee. Thanks Demolish a house - Dummies guide to a stress free demolition 53Feb 26, 2017 6:01 pm I'm a little nervous... Didn't get my sewer capped with my demolition. Demolition went awesome but Hopefully nothing goes wrong with the sewer. Builder should be starting digging for plumbing soon. When I asked the demo place they said it wasn't necessary and only say 5 jobs in 100 would do it!?
