Re: Anyone else have 600x600 Polished Porcelain Tiles??? 16Mar 23, 2012 7:58 am Good point. This is an email I received from a member of the Tile Council:- Is this surface "haze" on every individual tile? I don't expect you to actually view every tile but by viewing the floor from all sorts of directions and light sources can you see surface differences in all sighted tiles? If you have any unused tiles from an unopened carton, take one out and place it on top of a fixed tile where you are seeing the concern. Do you see the same surface marking on the unused tile? I will email you copies of 2 papers that I wrote over the past 2 years and in fact they were published in the Australian magazine called Tile Today. I have also talked about the subject with many others at Australian Tile Council gatherings and other industry meetings. Absolutely no one from the industry has queried my understanding of the concern. These papers will fill you in with the various reasons for my thinking. By the way, for interest, not a single wholesaler or retailer (large or small) has ever allowed any of my involvement with "optical haze" cases to a hearing or court - they will come to some agreement without taking it further, usually following the use of my name and information. Basically the problem is a manufacturing defect where defect tiles have been culled out of the general production steam and packed together into cartons and pallets and sold off at a lower cost than 1st quality products. This is virtually the only way that cartons (and pallets) have every tile that has the same or very similar concern. That's also why the carton marking does not comply with the requirements for 1st quality whereas the production stream will go through selection and be packed into cartons adequately marked with all requirements. I'd just like to bring the problem to people's attention so that they can query it with their builder before they hand over their final cheque and accept tiles that are not first quality .....
