It will depend on YOUR electrician. Mine charged around $50 per downlight to fit a GU10 downlight fitting without transformer. You will find that it will vary from person to person and even job to job and may even depend on how many you are having fitted. Good luck Re: charge to install downlights? 4Sep 04, 2011 11:46 pm On June 2011, my builder was charging $110 per halogen downlight whilst the house is being built (downlights + installation). I told them to stick it up their nose. I plan on just converting the batten lights with LED downlights post handover (although I don't know if I could, because it's a double storey....I'll have to talk to the builder's electrician). 13-08 Moved in 13-05 Build restart 13-04 VMIA compensation 12-08 Builder liquidation 12-03 Fixing 11-12 Lockup 11-11 Frame 11-09 Slab 11-09 Start 11-07 Contract 10-11 2K deposit 10-06 Titled land Re: charge to install downlights? 5Sep 08, 2011 9:16 pm I cannot offer a price on fitting but maybe another option. I have just completed the lighting installation in my house, we are building and in the favorable position that my father in law own's and electrical company. However the process we used in another option to consider if you are a bit handy. We installed a 240V plug base at each down light location, this will latter allow you to just plug the down light kit straight in. We then marked the position of each light on the floor. Once the roof is plastered / Painted we went through and used a laser to project the whole centre on the cealing. Then unsing a 92mm hole saw (they all use this size) drill the whole in the cealing. Then stick your hand in and there you will have a plug base. Now just plug the light in and you are done. If you want to do the install latter you can get the electriction to put the circut in on the same switch as the sigle batten light (put it on a plug top as well) then you can remove it latter and patch the whole. The advantage of this method is you also know where the roof supports are and do not hit them as you set the lights up when there is not cealing. We have a total of 44 Down lights in our house, installed them all in 1h. This is a 2 story house, lower level was all LED and upstairs Dicroic. Just another option to consider if you think the cost of the builer to do is to high, as this really needs to be done when building if doing a 2 story house. My 2 cents if it helps someone. Re: charge to install downlights? 6Sep 08, 2011 9:19 pm Sorry, an edit on my last post. The plug bases will need to be done by a licenced electriction, however the installation of the light can be done by anyone. At this point you are only plugging the DL into a power point. Re: charge to install downlights? 7Sep 08, 2011 9:42 pm Thank you everyone for your replies. Thankfully we have found an electrician that will allow us to do similar to what timbo suggested so we are back to having more than one downlight and powerpoint per room If you already have a contract, is the inspection cost stated in there? If not they would be forced to issue you a variation which you could of course object to. 12 21982 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 7525 |
