IF the course you have done is equivalent to one listed you can apply, if not back to school for you it seems. Looks pretty easy to understand. From there you will need to apply to the state body that governs the issuing of the licenses Re Edit: Look at the link below http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Tradespeople/Home_building_licensing/Applying_for_a_licence_or_certificate.html Re: Help with Obtain a Builder License 3Sep 01, 2011 6:55 pm chrisandkate Like it says, you need to complete either a Certificate IV in Building and Construction or a suitable degree/diploma. I have a degree in Construction Management at UNSW which fulfills the requirement under the second part of the requirement set out in thier website. That is why I'm asking if anyone has apply their licence with a degree in Construction management, Construction Economics, Quantity surveyoring or Applied Science. Anyone who has gone through this process, please advise. thank you. Re: Help with Obtain a Builder License 4Sep 02, 2011 9:09 am Does the course code you completed match one of the ones listed on the site? Re: Help with Obtain a Builder License 5Sep 02, 2011 9:17 am I find sometimes is this situation the people you talk on the switch board are not "god" and sometimes they make mistakes and dont know every single course out there. I bet they dont even have a clue about the building industry. They are just paraphrasing something they found. Re: Help with Obtain a Builder License 6Sep 02, 2011 9:34 am My understanding is the Cert V is the minimum for a Domestic licence and the Diploma the minimum for a Commercial licence. A Bachelor of Building is significantly more than either of these, as long as it was obtained in Australia, as you need to know Australian Building Standards. Like B star said I would try talking to them again. However, doing the Cert V probably wouldn't take that long anyway, as with RPL, you would probably find that you don't have to do a lot of the subjects. If they say you do still need it talk to Holmsglen or HIA. They have the course over 26 weeks. Show them your results and see what credits you get. You may not have to do much at all to get the cert IV Re: Help with Obtain a Builder License 7Sep 05, 2011 6:19 pm tjilpi My understanding is the Cert V is the minimum for a Domestic licence and the Diploma the minimum for a Commercial licence. I've sent a complaint letter to the Fair Trading regarding their wording on the website as misleading, hopefully they can understand. I dont really want to spend time at Tafe or College if its not required. I guess the time now is to wait and talk to the complaints department. Lets Hope they can read english.
