Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 29, 2011 6:14 pm Does anyone here use a Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service? I am looking for feedback from anyone who has one in their home as I was informed last week by Telstra that no land line is available to my new house and there no plans to extend the network now or in the future. When we purchased the block last year, we were told that underground power and phone would be available. All we have been offered is the Next G Wireless Link , but we can't run a back to base alarm on it, have a full Foxtel service, and emergency services have to be told where you are as they can't trace your calls. We already have 2 x wireless Next G on our laptops, and the speed is pretty poor, especially at certain times of the day eg 9am, 3.30pm when the phone lines get busy in the suburb where we work. We have the wireless at work because there is no broadband available via landlines, but we can have dial up! Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 3Aug 29, 2011 7:42 pm HI, I'm a little confused. First you say that there will be no landline but then you say that you can have dial up. You still need a normal phone line for dial up. I think your best bet is to call The TIO, to find out where you stand. If its only broadband you want, there is no obligation to supply it to you. Have a look at the whirlpool forums, that will be your best bet to find out the sort of information you require. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 4Aug 29, 2011 8:00 pm Do you have it anywhere in writing that underground phone would be part of the estate? A brochure or add..anything? If so I would hit up the developer/estate agent in the 1st instance then the ACCC. Even if there is no written evidence, if all your neighbours have the same story as a group you have got a good leg to stand on re a class action. The NBN will eventually replace the copper network, but it wont be as cheap and may not make it to all of us before its dumped, scrapped or stuffed up. lol Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 6Aug 29, 2011 8:12 pm Thanks for the replies aza0 HI, I'm a little confused. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Our new house has no land line at all, and Telstra will not be putting one in sceen7 Do you have it anywhere in writing that underground phone would be part of the estate? It is Telstra who has rejected the application. B STAR I have a gateway setup which is similar to what you are asking. Where abouts will you be using it. The Wireless link has a base station which goes in the roof and you have a hand set which looks like a normal phone ( from what I can understand as no one has a picture for me to look at) and it is 'on" all the time. You can't buy it, it has to be rented off Telstra and they decide if you are eligible. Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 8Aug 30, 2011 7:13 am Have you had a look at another type of wireless service such as vivid? http://www.vividwireless.com.au/home Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 9Aug 30, 2011 7:59 am Under the USO Telstra are only obligated to provide you with dial tone... how they deliver that is up to them... hey could be worse you could be stuck on a congested RIM and as stated above the NBN will solve this issue you just have to wait it out.. The wireless link is going to give you better than dialup. However it can be busy at times depending on where you are. I'm in Perth. Have just spoken to the TIO as the case is now closed. Telstra have rejected it outright, and the TIO can't do anything else to help so have closed our complaint. Have been told to get legal advice, as the block was advertised and sold to us as having a phone connection. I'm a bit over it at the moment, as I have spent over 35 hours being kept on hold, cut off and sent round in circles by different departments of Telstra so will leave it for a couple of weeks Re: Telstra Next G Wireless Link Service 11Aug 31, 2011 8:42 pm re being told about phone line, what does your contract of sale say??? Your probably not going to get anywhere in telstra because they haven't necessarily done anything wrong. It not like they will role out a redundant network just for you. Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow.
