Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 23, 2011 4:32 pm In our recent bathroom renovation, the builder removed and replaced all old fibro walls, but simply glued plasterboard sheeting onto the old fibro ceiling. A couple of screws were also used to hold it in place. The original sheets are secured with nails into hardwood. Should that be strong enough to both the old and new ceiling, or is the extra weight on the original ceiling possibly going to cause it to collapse/fall? the original joining stips were removed. is there anything i can do that may help assess it's strength? is there anything i can do to make it stronger (if needed)? it is a small bathroom - only 2 gyprock sheets were needed to cover the ceiling. thanks Re: glueing new ceiling onto old ceiling 2Aug 23, 2011 8:47 pm Ive seen this done. Long gyprock screws were used, and driven through the old ceiling into the ceiling joists as the original fixings might not take the extra weight. Because of the poor surface on the old ceiling glue wasn't used.
