Looking for your experiences and advice people.
Long story but I'll try to keep it short.
- my house is on a block which was leveled out before it was built 14 odd years ago.
- Neighbour's block is about 2m higher than mine, hence there are 2 tiered retaining walls with hardi-fencing behind the uper wall.
- 2 months ago the fence and upper wall were blown down in a storm we had.
- I immediately lodged a home insurance claim, then spoke to the neighbour.
- He claimed that both the wall and fence were on his side of the boundary, so he was going to sort it all out. As a result i canceled my insurance claim.
- 2 months down the track, nothing has been done, so i contacted the neighbour only to discover that the insurance had refused him.
- From things he said I don't think he ever had/has insurance. Now he wants to fix it himself.
- Not only do I NOT want him to do it himself, but at this rate it will take years before he does anything about it.
- I re-opened my insurance claim, and was told to get quotes for the repair.
- First guy i had look at it said the work will require engineering etc. So big job!
- Called HBF this morning to see if they can recommend any builders and they tell me that retaining walls aren't covered!
Am i going to have to pay for this out of my own pocket? What options do i have? Whats annoying is that the HBF home insurance policy claims retaining walls ARE covered in one section and that they AREN'T in another section.
Also, I'm in Perth WA if that changes anything.
Thanks
