Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 16, 2011 6:59 pm Hi, built brand new house. got a bloke to put decking under alfresco. 30 sqm batu. was frighteningly expensive. biggest mistake was getting me (mr useless) involved to seal the underside with feast watson oil prior to him finishing it. did it too thick and on most of the timbers it has dripped thru to other side giving an uneven blotch on all of it. looks crap (concrete much more attractive option now given the benefit of hindsight ) take my word for it- was unable to figure out how to attach photographic evidence ! question is what do i do to get back to an even coat and looking great (not just passable). people have told me tinting is not the way to go. re-oiling just makes the dark bits darker. sanding? is there some stuff i can rub on it to clean it off? Any one who is actually in the know please let me know what to do? Re: Decking - Help please 2Aug 17, 2011 9:45 pm just tonight i used mineral turps to clean off Japan Black stain from tassie oak, came of easily so maybe give turps a go. Don't go for a drum sander, too aggressive. Just the orbital sander will do the trick. Re: Decking - Help please 5Aug 18, 2011 6:24 pm If it's bothering you, give it a clean with this stuff, following the instructions on the container.... but then you'll have to re-oil: http://www.feastwatson.com.au/TimberCleanerWoodclean.asp Re: Decking - Help please 6Aug 18, 2011 9:41 pm Orbital sander with 120 grit good quality sand paper will do the trick. Once you have sanded it too what you think is finished mop the whole deck with clean water. Any areas that stay light will need more sanding, if the colour is consistant you have sanded it evenly. Let it dry and it will be ready to re-seal Re: Decking - Help please 7Aug 19, 2011 7:43 am check out woodwork Australia forums which has a decking section. Seems the trick from deck revive people is napi-san as a trick of the trade. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10973 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
