Recall on Rheem Heat Pump HWS

Just discovered, quite by accident, there has been a recall notice on Rheem Heat Pump HWS and thought maybe other people might not know about this either. Mine is all over the place in regards to water temperature and running times, and costing an arm and a leg to run when their advertising promotes it as 'energy efficient'. After talking to a Rheem rep at a recent Home Show he invited me to phone the office and request a free service call. Well that 'free' service call will cost $150 unless the HWS is under the recall notice....so I asked which models are covered by the recall and sure enough mine is, so fingers crossed this is just one of the reasons it's not a happy HWS.

Because I'm not familiar with the models covered by this recall, go to their website and check if it applies to yours....first check the model number and date of manufacture on the HWS to make it easier. <www.rheem.com.au>

Rheem told me on the phone they 'had contacted all owners' but as I hadn't received a letter or phone call I guessed there might have been other people in the same boat, so it was worth posting this notice even if you are the only other person.

The reason I contacted them was because I'm not at all happy with this HWS, water temperature is erratic and it seems to be running almost constantly and therefore costing an arm and a leg for hot water and if I hadn't made the call about this problem I wouldn't have known about the recall either.

The email I received after registering for a recall stated....<This may take up to a month due to the large numbers of heat pump water heaters installed. Please be assured that we are working through all registrations as quickly as possible>. A house call will take 45 minutes to change/repair the PCB, apparently.

Anyone else affected? and were you notified directly?

Well that was fast service!! About an hour ago I received a phone call asking if the repairmen could call in approx half an hour to do the recall work. I only found out about this on Tues afternoon and was told it would be sometime within the next month and if nobody had been in touch by then to give them another call.

Congrats to Rheem, and more importantly the two blokes who did the work, which being a recall was totally free of charge.

I had a look at the website and I can't find anything about the recall - can you tell me where you found the info?

When you go to the website <rheem.com.au> select the type of HWS you have, then the next page has the various model numbers...select the appropriate one in that list, if you aren't sure of the model number there are photos, and it is on the outside of the HWS as well. When you click on the model number the next page has all the relevant info on that model but down the bottom on LHS is a red/white diagonal striped box with 'Click for important recall information' then follow your nose from there.

I asked as I'm finding that the water temp is not high enough so before I go and investigate further I wanted to be sure it's not some defect.

I've been thinking mine was faulty, fingers crossed this repair will fix it...water temp is never the same two days in a row. I have mixers in the showers so there's is no need to change hot/cold on the tap just the on/off so I know the tap was at the same setting as yesterday but the water temp is different.
