Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Asbestos?? 2Aug 06, 2011 4:39 pm Generally the industries approach is for a job like this is that the material is assumed to be asbestos unless there is clear evidence that the material is not asbestos. By the time you have paid for samples to be taken and analysed its as cheap to get it removed by a licensed asbestos removalist. Basically you are paying for demolition plus Protective clothing and masks for the workers Double bagging all waste Additional tip charges Sorry I haven't got recent prices so best thing is phone a couple of licenced removalists. Re: Asbestos?? 3Aug 06, 2011 5:25 pm There are techniques used by the abestos removalists which shows the material is abestos or not. I recommend you call them and ask for their help and then take it from there. Re: Asbestos?? 4Aug 06, 2011 7:18 pm Most asbestos removal companies pay a lab to analyse samples for them. Re: Asbestos?? 6Aug 07, 2011 10:24 am The garage is under our house and so we would not be looking at demolition (as far as I can see they have just attached the suspect material onto the beams holding up the floorboards). Any hints about pricing would be appreciated - trying to decide whether to bother getting into looking at having it removed (AFAIK asbestos is fine provided that it isn't disturbed). Re: Asbestos?? 7Aug 07, 2011 4:58 pm I was worried when my demo company said we had asbestos. Little to my knowledge, it matters little as most old houses have it, it doesn't really cost that more to get rid of ... All it is as the other poster said - better handling techniques, protective clothing etc. The worst case is if they bury it or something like that. I'd suggest just getting a few quotes and maker sure they are fully insured and licensed to remove asbestos. What you are looking at is fibrous plaster, true gypsum, it is cast on horizontal beds with fibers included to give strength. I has no Asbestos in it. Houses before 1985… 2 7135 4 1834 |
