Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Family rooms and pool tables 2Aug 01, 2011 10:26 am I grew up with a pool table in the garage. It was used on a daily basis. Whenever friends came around, we would just hang out playing pool and organising mischief. I'd go play table tennis or pool against dad almost every night. Even now, dad has a lot of guests come over and the party usually ends up in the garage with everyone playing pool or table tennis. The fact that smoking of all substances was allowed in the garage may have contributed to it's popularity... but it was and still is the place to be. I agree 100% The garage space is a lot cheaper to obtain than under the main roof. Most blokes love to congregate in the garage, don't have to worry about wiping your feet, mens toys around and the mess is best left out there. Once the TT or Pool bug has worn off the garage space gets utilised for other things. The dedicated games room in the house, apart from being expensive, then has to find another use once the gaming side has worn off. Re: Family rooms and pool tables 4Aug 10, 2011 2:34 pm We have had two pool table's and yes we used them all the time... Great fun for a growing family and is something that you can do as a family, had a table tennis table also, never used it.... I know it's still got that novelty value but it gets used every day. I think this will continue - 2 young teenage boys, their mates etc. As for having the games room in the house, we haven't got a separate dining area, just the table in the family room. When it comes time to sell this house then the "Pool room" could also be considered as a possible "formal" dining room for buyers who might want that. Re: Family rooms and pool tables 10Aug 10, 2011 6:45 pm We have had pool table for the past 16 years, so the house we are building needed to accommodate this. We opted for a room with a bar area and sacrificed a formal lounge/dining. We can close this room off completely and its also sound dampened for when the rowdies gather for a game! So its a must for us, but not for everyone. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in.
