Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 02, 2011 8:34 pm We have added a family rumpus room, of which one part of the ceiling is gable, and we will be keeping it that. We were considering lining it with colorbond or mini-orb, but now are also considering a timber ceiling lining. Has anyone got or seen either of these and do they look any good? If anyone has timber, what type of timber and do they like it? Has anyone done a whitewash timber? Does timber lining (un-white washed) close the room in? Thanks in advance Re: Ceiling Linings 2Aug 02, 2011 8:57 pm I have done both in 2 different homes. In my Clare house I knocked down a wall between rooms to turn into a large lounge room. The house was a 1900's classic and it need some character so I put up a timber ceiling out of tounge and groove Baltic pine boards. I then stained the boards to get a uniform finish, before 2 coats of polyurethane in satin. Looked great, but sorry I no longer have photos of that one. The house I am in now has mini orb in the original part of the house and I wanted to extend that to one small computer area and bathrooms. My initial idea was to leave it unpainted but I stuffed up a few places and in the end paint was the only option. But it still looks great. I have done some clients houses and the mini orb was left un painted and it looks a treat. This is a photo I took just then of the ceiling above me. http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp184/eyspy/1-2.gif Re: Ceiling Linings 3Aug 02, 2011 10:01 pm Forgot to add: Another house we did in the Barossa area had a huge country kitchen with a pine lined cathedral type ceiling. We lime washed this one then put 2 coats of satin polyurethane on it and it looked GREAT !! Re: Ceiling Linings 4Aug 04, 2011 10:08 am Thanks for the feedback Thought I had it sorted. Was at an auction yesterday and on the spur of the moment bought Tasmanian Oak for 30c lineal metre (bargain!) so was going to line it with timber. Then I cam across a photo of what I wanted to do with the corrugated iron on http://www.hedgerconstructions.com.au/awardwinninghomes and I really like it, so going to do that. Now to figure out what to do with the timber.........maybe limed or painted, white, timber feature wall..... Also got Grey Box flooring for approx. $18 m 2 (yeh!!) Thanks for sharing. Looks good. The joiner has come back with a quote of close to 5k. I think we are going to not do it.
