Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 29, 2011 11:37 am HI All Not sure if this is the right place to post but looking to see if anyone has put in a built in tv unit with drawers/cupboards. We are looking to put one in as need more storage so thinking of it all being white but not sure what to do with regards to where the DVD player/set top box are put (want to have them hidden). SOmeone has suggested frosted glass so we can use the remote without opening the cupboard doors whilst someone else has said it would look better the same colour so to put up with opening the door. Peoples thoughts? Also, our kitchen is in a matt finish but someone who quoted suggested a gloss finish for the cabinet. Would this not look strange as essentially (as the room is open planned) there would be two finishes? Thanks in advance Re: Built in TV Units 2Jul 29, 2011 12:00 pm Hi beckles, We're having a built in area with drawers so that all of the DVD's and other stuff can be put away below the TV. I haven't opted to put the electronics away as i think it looks quite good as it is all Black anyway and ill use some glass shelving to one side for all of that. Definitely don't put the electronics behind a closed door. You will go backwards about 35 years and may as well not have a remote if you need to walk up to the telly and open doors, you may as well turn it on and change the channel. If you go all white, as we're doing, definitely use frosted panels of glass so that you can still use the remotes. If you have all drawers, like us, use a sliding shelf on runners and just a glass front so that it matches the size of the rest of the drawers. Hard to explain but I hope you understand what I mean. As for the kitchen, we're having gloss finish there as well as in the TV unit, same drawers. A hole cutter to the rear panel will do the job, extractor fans if you've a seriously heat producing unit like an Amplifier. Then all you need to add is an IR Extender. Small device that you leave outside of the cabinet (attached to your TV base or somewhere unobtrusive) and it re-transmits the signals to your devices inside via a couple of wires. Nice neat solution.
