It does the job but over all I dont really like it and would'nt have one again. Firstly we found that with the low flow shower heads especially in summer the system would cut out because not enough water was flowing through it. We thought it was faulty but when the technician came out to service it he said it was because the system is designed to have a fairly high flow go through it so when you add the combination of a low flow shower head ( in a effort to be water wise) and summer temps therefore not having hot showers the system cant handle the low water flow and turns itself off. Very fustrating as even in summer I hate cold showers . We can run two showers at once which is great however I also find the electronic controller a pain. The max I can set the water temp to is 50 degrees which is fine for the bathrooms but not hot enough to wash the greasy pans in the kitchen and I am forever having to boil the kettle to get the water hot enough. Another thing is with the controller if the power goes out you have no hot water. On the plus side ours has been in 4 years and no maintenance issues and it seems to be efficient gas wise - ie no massive bills. Not sure this helps you much. Good luck deciding. Re: RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 5Aug 01, 2011 9:28 pm Hi Bstar Ours is not quite four years old. I think that is pretty modern however hopefully they have made some advances in the last few years. RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 6Aug 01, 2011 9:54 pm We have rinnai and paid for 3 controllers... Two in bathrooms and one in kitchen. Because we have the kitchen one, we can set it to 65 deg and it's fabulous. Our last house didn't have this. Make sure the one you get has been factory preset to 65deg or you won't be able to do this. Hope this helps. Re: RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 8Aug 02, 2011 7:15 am Confused..................If we were to install a controller just in the bathroom for the shower [and have a 60deg unit], does that mean that we would only have to use the controller say set at 40deg for each shower, then have to reset it or turn off the controller for the kitchen and other uses. At what temperature will the heater operate at effectively with a low flow shower head??? Our plumber told us that our pipes won't support anything higher than 50 degrees So he will preset the hot water unit to 50 Re: RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 10Aug 02, 2011 8:28 am malbaby Confused..................If we were to install a controller just in the bathroom for the shower [and have a 60deg unit], does that mean that we would only have to use the controller say set at 40deg for each shower, then have to reset it or turn off the controller for the kitchen and other uses. Re: RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 12Aug 04, 2011 5:09 pm Hi Malbaby We have 3 with one in the Kitchen and the others in the bathrooms and we can only set ours up to 50 degrees. However just reading our manual it says that the HD models has temps up to 60 or 65. So maybe just check and make sure you are getting a system where you can set the temps to the higher levels. Wish we had known that when we installed ours. With the cut out of water hopefully that has been rectified with the newers models (our is 4 years old) however if we run a normal showers head with no flow governor on it we dont have a problem with the system cutting out. Hope this helps Re: RINNAI or RHEEM continuous flow gas hot water system???? 13Aug 04, 2011 6:01 pm Please check with your plumber to see if your pipes can withstand temperatures higher than 50 degrees. I just asked my DH who is a plumber, he said they must be using crap pipe if it is not able to withstand high temperatures. You have to use copper pipe for the higher temperatures, but some of the cheaper builders will use plastic, these come in varying quality, so depends on the plastic pipe they use I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit?
