Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Like a house with water frontage? 2Jan 24, 2008 8:57 am Hey Al, saw these islands being built on a show on the Discovery Channel.....they are the Palm Islands, they're the world's three largest man-made islands, which are being built just off the coast of Dubai.
The project has added about 120km's to Dubai's shoreline and some have named it 'The Eighth Wonder of the World'. Supposedly they can be seen from space???? Concept is good, variation on home elevations would not have gone astray Re: Like a house with water frontage? 9Jan 24, 2008 10:13 am And the weather is not always like that. Our friend is living over there at present and it is raining fairly consistently at the moment.
Still think that they look nice............for a holiday. They also have that other development shaped like the world. Justin Timberlake and David Beckham were rumoured to have bought certain "countries". Looks really good except for the cookie cutter houses...... Re: Like a house with water frontage? 12Jan 25, 2008 2:30 pm YUK !!!

You work fro a company and if they or you they wish to leave - if another company does not sign up to take over your visa - then you have something like 7 days to leave the country due to the visa conditions. Steve Re: Like a house with water frontage? 13Jan 25, 2008 4:55 pm Have you seen these huts with glass floors?
You can sit in the lounge room and watch the fish swimming under the water/under the floor. Yes please, this is better! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Like a house with water frontage? 14Jan 25, 2008 6:10 pm I was offered a three year contract teaching in the UAE (Abu Dhabi, but it's pretty much like Dubai) a year ago. Full accommodation included, private schooling for our son paid for, car allowance, health insurance, annual trips home and, of course, NO tax.....wowee!
It got to the stage that I had the references sent in, the contract in my hand ready to sign, my international driver's licence sorted out, passports updated, a school found.... In the end we didn't go (obviously LOL) because we were afraid to be so far away from my dh's father, who is very sick. But to this day I still in some ways wish we'd gone that route, as financially it would have been a very good idea (as my dh could have easily found work there). But family kinda comes first, huh.... I think the heat of the UAE would get to me, to be honest. We know several people who live in that country and they all LOVE it, but they also all love heat. UGH. Lurvely pics, though! Fiona Re: Like a house with water frontage? 15Jan 25, 2008 7:07 pm I really admire those turrets and towers on the houses. The zero-imagination builders in Australia would have an embolism if you asked for that.
Those places are a bit short on garden space though. Too hot to play outside unless it's in the water ? As for the Maldives, they're what, about one metre above sea level ? The Boxing Day tsunami just washed over the entire place. I wouldn't even want to holiday there. http://youtube.com/watch?v=PfCNF2W3s2Y&feature=related Re: Like a house with water frontage? 16Jan 25, 2008 8:12 pm Yuck it looks horrible to me ... all those cookie cutter houses. I'd definitely move to Thailand and live on the beach there ... simple life ... nice fresh cuisine. Except foreigners can't buy land in Thailand.
We have friends who moved to Dubai for the extra perks. It turns out that it cost them far more to live there (keeping up with the lifestyle, nanny and housekeeper) and they came home in a worse situation i.e. they now can't afford to buy back the house they sold in Adelaide 4 years ago. Re: Like a house with water frontage? 17Jan 25, 2008 8:22 pm DeeElle, that's amazing. You'd think they would have returned better off financially, but then again, living in Dubai might well be deceptively cheap-looking. You never know, do you?
