Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 24, 2011 8:28 pm Need help with my sister's heating problem. Really appreciate if anyone has any suggestions Heater is called "Real Flame" - MAGIGLO 750 Series Their lounge measures roughly ….30feet x 30feet, ceiling 9’11. I've cut & pasted the below from an email she sent me: The room has never heated up comfortably, last night we were freezing, it seems like the heat is going up the chimney and not in the room. The flame is really pushing up (not sure how to explain that!). After it was first installed we had to call the plumber back and he enlarged the jets but this didn’t make any difference. We then called Heat Master and a rep came out and just added more coals but that hasn’t worked either. They've had this heater for a few years & don't use it which is rediculous. I mentioned posting on the forum, maybe someone out there can help. thanks in advance Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: Still feeling the cold with "REAL FLAME" heater .... hel 2Jul 24, 2011 8:38 pm Sounds like the chimney is causing a strong vacuum causing all the heat to head up instead of out. I'd suggest turning it on get up on the roof and see how much heat is coming out the top. Then if there's a lot of heat coming out of there, cause an obstruction in the chimney so the vacuum isn't so strong or stop the wind causing the vacuum atop the chimney. I'm afraid there are two types of gas fireplaces; heating and purely decorative. The Magiglo's are designed to be decorative. If they check their manual, if they still have it, they'll probably notice that it doesn't even list a heating capacity, it just says "decorative". Ones that are designed to heat a room, like, say, the Jetmaster's will tell you the size of room they are designed to heat. That room of your sisters is a little over 60 square metres. A decorative fireplace would struggle to heat up a 30-40 sq metre room. We don't have a RealFlame fireplace (yet) but have been looking at them for the poolhouse and or lounge room. All the ones we considered are classified as only being decorative - not really as a heating source. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Still feeling the cold with "REAL FLAME" heater .... hel 5Jul 26, 2011 9:48 am Eskay40, isn't it closer to 100m2? (actually its 83.612m2, thank you Google) As mentioned (regardless of 60 or 100m2) that heater is way too small to heat for comfort or efficiency. Also from what has been said it looks like its really only a decorative unit. There seems to be a move toward hydronic heating. They can be very efficient if you have gas at the house, not so much if on propane bottles. A standard room is between 3m x 3m (or 9m2) and 4m x 4m (16m2) so surely a room of over 80m2 is likely to be inaccurate - unless it's their whole house in one room. Ours would easily be that - maybe slightly larger. Pretty easy to have that size if it is your three main living areas in your house. Some things are worth waiting for.
