It is loaded onto Google Earth for the world to see. http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i447/david242gt/myoldhouse.jpg And here is the finished product. http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i447/david242gt/house-3.jpg Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 14Jul 22, 2011 11:50 pm WOW! Did you find it a bit of an anti-climax knowing how it was going to look? Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 15Jul 23, 2011 9:38 am Alt0160, Home design 3D is only centimetre accurate, not millimetre, but that was good enough for me. Those sketchup designs are impressive, how long did they take to put together? Chatz Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 16Jul 23, 2011 7:54 pm I was completely obsessed with Google Sketch up !! It was great to be able to visualise where my things would go and allowed me to see where i would need extra furniture etc. Made it so easy for me when we moved in, as I already knew where everything was going and had bought the extras I needed to fill in the gaps. When I saw this thread, I actually just went back to my sketch up pics for a look - it looks just like the real thing!! Quite surreal to see my house and belongings on the computer now! Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 17Jul 23, 2011 9:08 pm come on.. you know you want to post pictures *hint hint* Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 18Jul 24, 2011 8:45 am chatz <cut> Those sketchup designs are impressive, how long did they take to put together? Chatz It certainly takes time I'm IT savvy but I'm not very good with drawing, I don't even know how to use photoshop. I spent a few hours watching tutorials for using sketchup and then it took quite a few hours to get the plan drawn in 2D will millimeter accuracy, however a lot of that was learning sketchup. Going 3D and adding windows/doors was quite challenging, and getting the floor right was tricky. I'd recommend *not* deleting extra lines on your walls until you understand what they do. I did this a few times only to find that I just removed the outside wall when I look around the other side of the model. Google 3D warehouse has been amazing, you can grab models of fridges, doors, chairs, et cetera and just paste them into your model. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ I also modeled in sweethome 3D, that was useful to create a plan of the house, but no flexibility to add a roof et cetera. Sketchup is extremely flexible but you have to do a lost of the work yourself. Re: Anyone else modelling these house in google sketchup? 19Jul 29, 2011 9:11 am I've been inspired. Guess what I'm doing tonight! Have thought about it in the past, but couldn't be bothered. Especially with that deleting lines problem that seems to remove whole portions of the design! I agree, not being able to add a roof in sweethome is annoying, and sunken areas. What else did you find missing? I imported a lot of models from googles 3D warehouse too, fridges, doors, cabinets, windows, cornice, etc. A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor.
