Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 28, 2011 8:25 pm Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to cut a small channel - about 10mm deep, 16mm wide and 500mm long - into a concrete slab. This channel will be used to feed some 12V wiring to power several LED lights fitted within porcelain tiling in a kitchen. Many thanks in advance! Re: Cutting small channel into concrete slab... 3Jun 28, 2011 8:35 pm Why 16mm wide, i would only imagine that the cable would be around 5mm. also get a masonry blade for your grinder if you have one and also you could chisel out the rest with a bolster chisel of correct size if needed - just a thought could be wrong sorry Re: Cutting small channel into concrete slab... 4Jun 28, 2011 9:26 pm Thank for the replies. I wanted the channel to be 16mm as I was going to fit a conduit of some sort to feed the cable through, then dile directly over it. I suppose it wouldn't be entirely necessary to add the conduit though, right? However, I want to ensure that I am able to extract the cable without having the remove the tile, should I need to replace the LED and cable unit. I don't actually have a grinder, however am quite happy to purchase one if that is the best option. What size is recommended; 4" (100mm) or 5" (125mm)? Thanks again! Re: Cutting small channel into concrete slab... 5Jun 29, 2011 7:21 am I would get the 125mm one, to make sure you can cut deep enough. Especially if you do some cutting at an angle rather than directly down. FYI I have never cut into a concrete slab myself, only concrete pavers. The conduit sounds like a good idea to me. I also wouldn't want the cable directly in there. This cheap gear is sold by Bunnings Beware though you will create one hell of a lot of dist, so you might want to dribble a small amount of water into the cut, but dont electrocute yourself.
