We had PCI, then our builder had two weeks to complete any unfinished work, fix defects etc. Then we had handover which we walked through, and signed off on, then paid the final cheque and received our keys. They then completed more work in the week after this Re: would you sign for PCI 3Jun 18, 2011 9:03 am what im worried about is its the last payment and if i pay am i going to have trouble getting them to finish it off as theyve already told me there having trouble getting tradies.they have 50 houses there doing and in there defence will only employ good trades people so are struggling with there builds[like having to wait a month for the tiler as hes really good and will only use him] Re: would you sign for PCI 4Jun 18, 2011 9:07 am I know all about waiting... we had to wait 4 months from when our cabinets went in to when we actually received the keys... I would still ask that they put all the incomplete jobs in writing and sign that they agree to have them complete within a certain timeframe. Re: would you sign for PCI 7Jun 19, 2011 8:43 am do you not have a fixing period in between pci and handover, during which the builder has to fix the defects prior to demanding your money? i've just done my pci and would understand how you feel, when they ask for money without doing their jobs first. My house had quite a few defects that need to be addressed. my private inspector advised me that even if some of them don't get fixed by handover, its not the reason to refuse paying. as long as i have my builder written down the stuff they haven't done. whatever happens I still have the warranty period, in theory. (By theory, I mean lots of people are saying it takes builders forever to respond during that time...) If you are not in a rush to move in, then you've got plenty of time to stand on your ground. Have them fix the defects first then you'll pay. Maybe try have a private inspection to verify your claims. From my experience, my builder seems to take my private inspector more seriously... We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing.
