Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 21Aug 29, 2011 5:08 pm Where are you building??? if you are a new estate you should have 3 phase power available at the pit in front of property these days 3 phase is normally run and they just connect houses on each phase to even load. Our 3 phase was only $165 for additional cable only. Meter install is same price as single. Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 22Aug 31, 2011 7:53 pm Building in an area with overhead power lines. It's not a new area. Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 23Dec 28, 2011 11:38 am I have just been quoted $6072 by Powercor for 6 metre underground 40 amp single phase cable across bare earth on the Victorian border. I have done a 2 lot subdivision of a duplex building & land that had 1 pit installed in 1989 to supply both meters underground across 1 of the new divided lots. To get the new titles, I need supply underground power from individual pits to each meters across their own land. It was originally suuplied to both meters from one side only of a corner block. A friend in Melbourne is a large electrical contractor who was quoted $100,000 for commercial site, but once he demontrated how many extra Kilowatthours the new building would consume over the next 15 years, he negoiated the cost to zero for his client. The point being, if you have enough potential for Incremental Revenue, which is the revenue that distributor will receive from your new connection via the distribution tariffs, the distributors will wheel & deal. Revenue is allowed per ESC guidelines at 15 years for a business connection and 30 years for a domestic connection. I have caculated that with the old configuation of the land & building, each meter's current readings shows that a daily average of 7 Kwh over the past 21 years. With the extra wattage of all the new & additional appliances over the next 30 years the daily average would be, 31 Kwh for each meter. I just checked my last power bill at home & my estimate for my subdivison was autheticated. So over the next 30 years, I calculate that the meter will consume an additional 176 MegaWattHours of power where as the $6072 agreement they offered me shows zero for Powercor contribution, Zero for Incremental Revenue to Powercor & zero as my Average consumption. When I tackled the estimator about this, he said it was my job to give him on a plate all this additional figures accessible by him with a liitle bit of effort. I suspect that his bonuses are proportioal to our contributions. I will let you know the results of my negotiations. Before anyone says I'm the luckiest SOB ever, the council is making me install detention pits. My drainage system cost $19k. You win some you lose some.
