Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 4Jun 05, 2011 9:56 pm I had one done by UE a couple of months ago for $2600ish (base cost was about the same but more additional wiring as it was a fair way to the nearest pole). Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 5Jun 06, 2011 9:53 am The cost for our 3 phase upgrade was $1230. We already had underground power at the house we knocked down. If you take that figure away I don't think thats all that expensive overall. 3 phase used to cost min $4k to install at a residential and was nearly impossible to get OK'd by suppliers unless you could proove you needed it for a business or hobby. 3 phase prices for install are much cheaper that 5-10 years ago. It also all depends how far away the existing 3 phase supply is. Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 6Jun 06, 2011 12:22 pm I just recently had underground pit down by Jemena for 2 townhouse development. Cost me $1908 all up, which includes 5 meters of cabling, and they said no price difference for single or 3 phase, so I got them to do 3 phase. Any additional cabling was $90 per metre from memory. Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 7Jun 06, 2011 6:40 pm Our underground cabling was ~$1700 for 3 phase. It was $100 extra to upgrade from 1 phase to 3 phase... Also from memory the pit was only $900, the wiring made up the other $700 or so. We have Jemena by the way... Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 8Jun 26, 2011 2:57 pm I am also in the process of building/tendering with Metricon. We are being quoted $6000 for a new underground power pit... This seems ludicrous. Contract states "Provide underground power pit to left hand front boundary corner of proerty uncluding under road/crossover/path borning and all relevant fees. Includes temprary power pole, power supply and authority charges for construction purposes until installation of live underground power pit." They also say it is a provisional sum. Surelu based on what I have read $6000 as a provisional sum is 4 times what it will cost???? Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 9Jun 26, 2011 8:47 pm Camrw Contract states "Provide underground power pit to left hand front boundary corner of proerty uncluding under road/crossover/path borning and all relevant fees. I think that this may be your problem - It indicates that they have to bore under the road to get power to your block, and that won't be cheap. Paul Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 11Jun 27, 2011 6:37 pm pitance guys, cost me over 12k for a transformer and 23k for cabling to connect power to our place, and we had the pleasure of having all our applicance blown up by the electrician in the process. But Jemena are taking their damn time. It's nearly 20 working days and i'm yet to see anything done! Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 13Jul 12, 2011 4:46 pm It's been over a month since I paid for jemena to install the pit, and so far they've only installed the pit.... and tell me there is at least a 2 week delay in installing the cables... so much for 20 working days. They're giving me a 2 month time frame from date of payment. This is cow manure, and their representative on the phone told me off for asking when it'll be finished. How incredibly insulting! A few streets away, they had their pit installed and with cables all done on the same day after ours. I am amazed and very angry at jemena for their lack of work Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 14Jul 13, 2011 11:16 pm $850 for Jemena 3 phase underground pit (I don't know what amps). 20 meter cable. Property is in inner north east Melbourne. Street has a mixture of existing overhead powerlines and underground pits. Distributor initially told me $3.5K, but after they visited my property, they send me an invoice for $850 only. 13-08 Moved in 13-05 Build restart 13-04 VMIA compensation 12-08 Builder liquidation 12-03 Fixing 11-12 Lockup 11-11 Frame 11-09 Slab 11-09 Start 11-07 Contract 10-11 2K deposit 10-06 Titled land Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 15Aug 12, 2011 5:58 pm Well power pit is yet to be completed after over 2 months. Apparently someone has stolen our cable and tube with metal coverings going up the power pole. I call cow manure, as from day one (and i visit my site practically daily) I have never seen such a structure installed. Underground Power Pit Cost 16Aug 13, 2011 5:56 pm Ours cost $1327.87 exactly for a single phase 80a including additional cabling at 100a. They had to bore underneath road to connect up supply too. We are in eastern suburbs Melbourne, United Energy territory. Pit was installed within 20 working days of quotation acceptance, with some coercive phone calls. Pit was installed Oct 2010. It went in on the boundary line and was done all within a week, several calls from the company advising that they were on site and when they had left with the job done. Couldn't fault the communication service Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 18Aug 17, 2011 9:40 pm FINALLY!!!! After over 2 months the underground power pit is complete! Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 19Aug 21, 2011 12:32 pm i was quoted by Powercor in Geelong area, and had to pay, $4300 for a pit and a 30 metre underground run from the nearest supply point. just normal single phase 40 amp. i tried querying it and got nowhere. they are defined as a "Natural Monopoly", they have pricing guidelines from government. but it is seriously ridiculously expensive. the fun part is of course i pay for it but they own it. they get a free extension to their supply grid, what a great business plan. Re: Underground Power Pit Cost 20Aug 25, 2011 5:28 pm I just went through the process with United Energy to get a pit installed. $2147.20 with 5 metres of cable included and I whinged until I was given the break down of their costs. We are all paying a 'customer contribution', not full costs. I was given the example of a job in Blackburn when they could not bore under the road because it is all rock. It all had to be dug up and reinstated at a cost of $17000.00 to the company, but they were restricted to charging the customer the same basic fee I paid plus cable. Worst thing is, if I was subdividing my property to build 3-4 townhouses (as everyone else in the area is doing) I would have been charged less or nothing. This is where we are all paying more for electricity. I'm a firm believer of user pays for their wants/needs/profits, not everyone else. Don't even ask what the sparky charged to underground to the house. We had to upgrade our switchboard to fit in with the new rules and it cost us more that the power company charged us.
