Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 25, 2011 11:40 pm Our build should be finished in the next month or so and it's made me wonder what's next? I'm assuming we have already organised the hook up of our electricity as I recall sorting something out re this prior to our build. Do I have to do anything re hooking up water or is Sydney water already connected? Assuming Telstra have to hook up our phone connections? I'm assuming insurance needs to be sorted prior to handover / final invoice payment? As you can see I've got lots of assumptions! If you could give any guidance it would be really appreciated! Also, a rough idea of cost for the connections would be really helpful too if you don't mind? Oh and we're building in Kellyville Ridge in Sydney. I'm surprised you haven't actually had a bill for it by now either. Same with electricity, you should have connected it for them to build? and already had bills for it? You will have to ring Telstra to organise a new connection. Insurance is a must before handover. If someone robs you, breaks something when you are driving home with the keys, electrical fire burns the house down it's coming out of your wallet. Re: House is almost ready....now what? 3May 26, 2011 6:37 am Water will be connected, that is connected as soon as the land titles. With electricity (and gas), our builder connected it in their names during the build, and then at handover changed it our's, or we could have signed up with another company. Have you been given a handover date? Most banks will require proof of insurance before they will issue the cheque for final payment. You will need to arrange the telstra connection. I don't know much about that tho, my partner organised it for us. You may also need to arrange to have an antenna installed. Our builder provided the points, but not the antenna so that was an extra cost before we could even watch tv. Oh, and rubbish bins. Once we get your occupancy certificate you will need to contact your council and tell them you have moved in and they will send out your bins. There will be a small charge to cover this. Unless this has already been organised? Re: House is almost ready....now what? 4May 26, 2011 3:03 pm Blacktown council also send out a inspector once a month and check over your house(usually they just snoop around the front yard or don`t even get out of the car) and leave a notice in your letter box of things that need attention and give you 30 days to sort it. They keep coming back and checking until it`s all done or you call them out and then they check everything(retaining walls/fences etc) and give you a final occupancy certificate. Instead of you asking for a time extension all the time. Re: House is almost ready....now what? 5May 26, 2011 5:25 pm Thanks everyone No water or electricity bills as yet! Build started mid February so maybe it's a bit soon? Will definitely get the insurance sorted asap, I have a feeling the bank will require it anyway before handing over the final payment. Good one about the bins! Hadn't thought of those! Re: House is almost ready....now what? 7May 27, 2011 6:16 pm I found that i couldnt get insurance on my house outside of 30 days before handover. You'll need to check with your insurance company to see what time frame they have as a lot of the online quote systems wont give you a quote if youre outside 30 days before occupancy. - Juz Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil.
