But I'd talk to the council. They may have records re the house - and I'd also talk to the locals in the area. Put a notice at the local library with a photo asking, Do you know when this house was built etc.? Steve Re: what year was my home built? 4Jan 11, 2008 4:25 pm Steve,
Thanks, you're a great help! Here are some pics Front of house: (repainted in 2000) was a light green prior to 2000. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y234/razydog/frontyard.jpg Rear of house: (deck was added in 2008) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y234/razydog/BackofHouse12.04.jpg I've rung the council and for $50+ I can request a building approval search from 1946 onwards. The lady I spoke with was able to check sat. pics from 1946 then from 1996 (I think), there was nothing built in 1946. I've found that in 1951 the Govt. bought land and started building housing commission homes in the area. They still own next door. We are in North West Brisbane. Al. there is no land title. Only a cert. of title search. It's all gone electronic. Unless you were lucky enough to buy before it went electronic, which we weren't. I did go through all the paper work (as I keep everything like that), and found a plan of the area from the dept. of natural rescources, if I could make out any dates it was 1954 but that is really guessing as the copy isn't the best, and then it doesn't say anything about buildings. Thanks for your suggestion. our dream home in the hands of a nightmare builder Cheers for your help Re: what year was my home built? 8Jan 12, 2008 9:30 am I’m going to take a stab at a rough time frame……

(new carpet was laid in 2000, but was laid over old underlay, and under that was the newpaper). It was April/May 1969. The floor boards underneath were like brand new.

One option is to call the housing commission and ask them when they established your area. I'd also suggest you goto your local library and have a look Ian Evans books that apply to your hosue. I've used them to gain info re colours etc. and he is a great resource. http://www.oldhouses.com.au Re your windows, Casement windows are easy to put screens on. I had them as a kid in QLD with screens, we had some that flipped up the bottom half, and others that the bottom half slide upwards. I'd stick with the windows and keep the charachter - get screens to go with them. re the noise - seal the edges with rubber dust seals, and then if not effective enough, double glaze them with a film of plastic or perhaps perspex. Good luck with it all and have fun. Weatherboard homes are lovely.
