The only two options as I see it; space the cars wider apart to allow the cars to swing partially before exiting the garage and loose another metre or two of workshop space or park the cars on a 45 and loose around the same. Both scenarios would require a larger opening though, maybe 7 metre width. How large can I go with a garage door? Is there a limit to the width commercially available? Not that she cant do it, more that she would prefer to park ten miles away from anything resembling an obstacle than be faced with a parking challenge... A park right outside the supermarket, nah! Theres 2 spots beside each other on the other side of the car park... I'll take that Re: Driveway/Garage- minimum access size for turn in 7May 09, 2011 10:07 am We are renting a unit in an apartment block with a double garage. The car park has similar configuration to your drawing, i.e. we are coming into our garage from the side. The access is just under 7 meter wide. I can tell you, you won't be able to turn in a family size car in one go. Small car should do fine though. One thing I would suggest is to extend your driveway past the garage. That way you would be able to reverse out of your garage and exit to the street by driving forward. DKP Re: Driveway/Garage- minimum access size for turn in 8May 09, 2011 12:51 pm B&D only make roller doors to 5500wide and I think the widest you might get anywhere is 6000mm. B&D make sectional doors up to 6600mm wide. I understand you want it to be as easy as it can be, but surely you can see that by wanting so much workshop space and being limited to the dimensions of you block you will have to compromise. And as far as dummy running it, unless you have solid walls and fitting to test you r dummy run, I'm not sure you can be certain of the result. One thing that might help is increasing the return of the left front where the door is. If you made that bigger (although you don't show a measurement, you could swing the nose of the car on the left before you get out of the garage, allowing you to point the front of the car toward the street. you may still need to correct the other way a little, but it would be easier. I also agree with having more room to swing into on the left of the garage. I'd push that fence back a meter at least From the way its drawn though I really don't see it being a big problem. If the biggest worries you have are about having to make more than one fluid motion getting your can in your garage, you have a pretty sweet life. I'll take that I'm feeling ya Once again, it's difficult to know for sure without trying, but with mid-sized cars you might be ok so long as the first person home parks on the left. Second person home only has to clear the right side of the entry and can then use a fraction of the workshop area as swing-room. I also liked the suggestion of continuing the driveway further down the side to allow extra meneuvre room...but then that eats into your yard out the back there. We don't have a massive 4wd or a big long station wagon but a standard car fits in and out of ours just fine. It wasn't long before it sold, and we are now looking down the barrel of buying existing in the same area for 100k less, and Gavin enough left over to change the things we don't like... Thanks for everyone's advice, we got so caught up in the big picture the last few months, I forgot about a few of the threads....sorry! My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
