Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 26, 2011 12:09 pm Hi all Our house is finally finished and we have moved in . We want to build a deck at the rear, which would be great because then we wont have to walk in mud. I bought Allan Staines "Decks and Pergolas construction manual" which has great information, but now I'm not sure about attaching a ledger to the bricks. The house is on bearers. Can a ledger be bolted onto the bricks, or does it have to be bolted through to the house bearer that is sitting on engaged piers behind the wall. I am assuming that the house bearer wont be hard up against the wall, that there will be a gap between the bearer and the bricks. The original plan was to bolt a ledger across the back of the house, and a bearer across the inside of the 3 brick columns that support the alfresco roof and span the joists between them. I have a diagram, but when i tried registering with photobucket it kept telling me I am ineligible to register and I can't paste it onto here Any input appreciated Re: Building a deck - attaching a ledger 2Apr 26, 2011 2:40 pm Depends on a few factors, How high of the ground, Floor load width and Floor load, Type of house construction, Area of construction Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done).
