Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 03, 2008 4:35 pm I have been considering the CSR shadowset cornice
but I have never actually seen the "plant on application" I quite like the flush application (which I have seen) my husband prefers plant on from the brochure (of course we have to disagree lol) I was wondering if anyone had that cornice particularly? Im interested in what people chose and why? Im looking for something modern, and am confused Re: what cornice style did you choose? 3Jan 03, 2008 5:29 pm I’m with mek…square-set looks great! Its just a little different from the ordinary cove and suits our style ( country/colonial/rustic whatever) Re: what cornice style did you choose? 5Jan 03, 2008 8:52 pm we went for the square-set cornice too!
modern and simple. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: what cornice style did you choose? 6Jan 04, 2008 7:36 am A bit of both for us.
Square set downstairs. Modern looking & as said before, & more expensive. 75mm standard classic upstairs. Thought that we would probably be the only ones up there so not fussed on what we had. Same as what is in the Display Home. Cheers, Mike. We thought that the ceilings were not high enough to pull it off and when we renovated it, we used the New York profile.... This time around, we have the higher ceilings but didn't think of square set, we have gone with the builders standard... Re: what cornice style did you choose? 8Jan 04, 2008 10:53 am we have square set in the back room and bulk of the hallway which is a modern area of the house, oh and the bathroom because its tiled to the top.
The small enterance way and bedrooms have a 90 x 120 kinda step cornice with i think 3 on the 120 and 2 on the 90, but these are 3000 ceilings so it doesnt look to dominant. I find square set in small rooms with low ceilings feels like i am sitting in a box. Re: what cornice style did you choose? 10Jan 04, 2008 3:07 pm square set for our house.
It was standard with our builder. ***STYLE*** 13Jan 04, 2008 6:24 pm vanderlay royalblue Whatever happened to STYLE?!!! It went out of fashion!! A quotable quote! Too true!!! The trends for straight, square, monotone, brown, black etc etc are bloody boring (have I said that before)? In today's world, the art of design seems to have largely been lost. I'm sure economics play a big part in it, but don't you see days past where anything built was much more than a functional item, it was an expression of style, flair and decoration. Look at the formal French gardens of the past few centuries, the buildings throughout Europe, or the elegant styles that prevailed in the forties etc. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee299/matthewnathan/60245c05.jpg Bring back luxury, sensually rich and opulent textiles and furnishings, vibrant colours...... Gimme some STYLE!!!!!!!!!!!! Ash. Re: what cornice style did you choose? 14Jan 04, 2008 6:38 pm Nice Ash, i love the really ornate cornices, in the right house, they really are a feature.... especially with the high ceilings and the pressed metal ceilings. Re: what cornice style did you choose? 15Jan 04, 2008 7:48 pm Ash you make a good point, however it really depends on the style of house you are building....and these days modern is the way to go mostly because people are building in new estates which have pre determined styles....
anyway, we are probably going to go square set in the main hallway that runs pretty much the length of the house...we are having higher ceilings so should be able to carry it off....for the bedrooms we may look at something a little more decorative closer to the selections time....I have to convince hubby first, he is keen on square set through the whole house!! Re: ***STYLE*** 16Jan 04, 2008 8:49 pm Elegant French gardens = often translates to raised boxed garden beds and plenty of straight lines. Or even striped French provincial blue textiles are very 'in' right now.
Symmetry & Lines . Very modernist but another take on more traditional styles. We bought curtains like these for our last house and left them behind Damn but they aren't still in fashion Re: what cornice style did you choose? 17Jan 09, 2008 1:29 pm We use the 4 steps ones for most of ground floor (except laundry, powder room, garage) plus upper living area.
Got some photos on my blog: http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/search/label/cornice Tried to post a photo here using some existing photos from the blog, but looks like blogspot is blocking that.... Re: what cornice style did you choose? 19Apr 14, 2009 1:56 pm We didn't put much thought into our cornice and now we think we might regret it, we have ordered Sydney Cove and now think it might not look modern enough to go with the rest of the house! Re: what cornice style did you choose? 20Apr 14, 2009 8:31 pm The photo is not really clear but to me it looks like twist in the cornice.
