I have bought a house that is on stumps, but was renovated which meant that the new section of the house was built on a slab. My girlfriend and I want to put floorboards throughout the house, but the problem is the slab sits a little higher than the floorboards (everything is covered with carpet). My issue is that when I put floorboard over the slabbed area, it will sit higher than the area which already has boards........ now we have considered the need for a step but then all the doors would be the wrong height after the new floorboards have been put in (ie things wont be flush). I have been told that the best option would be to sand or cut some of the concrete slab down to level that will make things even, but wouldnt know who does this or where to start...... any thought or help on this subject would be a great help!!!! thanks guys... Re: Please help!!!! 2Jan 02, 2008 1:23 pm I have no experience with these things, but it would seem to me that shaving a little off your doors would be a hell of a lot easier (and less messy) than grinding a concrete slab... Re: Please help!!!! 3Jan 02, 2008 4:26 pm I’m with Cabinfever, grinding the slab will make a hell of a mess!!!
So…..what’s the problem with a slightly higher raised floor? I see no issue here. I think it would work….but you would probably need to put a strip of metal or something along it to attract people’s attention so they don’t trip up or down the slight rise. I really don’t see this as a problem….. How about you post a photo of the two areas so we can have a look at it properly. If you do, make sure you show the skirting around the step area. I've often seen different level timber floors, with a timber 'ramp' making the two levels meet.
Or you could enjoy the existing timber floor, and fit nice new carpets to the other area! Ash (of course). Re: Please help!!!! 10Jan 05, 2008 5:15 pm I think the timber ramp willbe youre best choice.
The originla boards will be around 10 to 12 mm lower so a 100mm wide ramp that matches in would best option in my books. and yes you will have to trim the slab side of the house doors. Steve Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7143 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
