Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 31, 2011 7:42 pm There is a new subdivision next to my house. The block itself is quite big and as they had to level it, they built a retaining wall.
My house has a brick wall right on the boundary. I tried to persuade the developer to amend the original design of the retaining wall so that there would be a sufficient gap between the house brick wall and the proposed retaining wall (e.g. make it leaning towards their land). I even agreed to compensate some expenses associated with such redesign. Unfortunately, he is not an easy person to deal with. So, he just ignored all my proposals and enquiries. Now I probably need to take this matter to the Magistrates Court. Can anyone recommend me a good and reasonably charging structural engineer who can inspect the retaining wall and give me a written report. Thank you Re: I need a Structural Engineer to write an Engineered Repo 2Mar 31, 2011 8:08 pm to start with the post should lean toward your house other wise you are reducing the load the wall can take and putting pressure from the material being retained and putting the post in a position to be pushed down/collapsed. My wall specs were min 5° toward the neighbor +/-2° An engineer will design a wall based on soil tests feature surveys and details of your foundations. The surveyor may request more details of your foundations in regards to the angle of repose of your foundations. If teh wall is to be with in this angle the builder will be in a lot of trouble if they have not consulted prior. The inspector only makes sure that the wall meets the design. FWIW anything under 1m in Victoria is classed as landscaping and you don't need an engineers design for. Sounds like you may need to get the m to stop building and get some details sorted, but I also assume the posted signage as to thier intentions and you didn't object during the allotted time? I am not aware of any deadlines to submit a formal objections but I sent them emails and letters when the retaining wall has not been completed yet (I am talking about that section next to my house). Re: I need a Structural Engineer to write an Engineered Repo 4Apr 02, 2011 5:55 pm Just a question: If your house is a zero lot boundary, then surely there is a maintenance easement along the boundary? In which case they cannot put any permanent structure on that easement, I didn't think. I have a zero lot house next to me with a 0.9 maintenance easement. Check your contracts. I have not heard about such a thing as "maintenance easement" before. Can you please be a bit more specific. I am just wondering what contract are referring to ? I’m not a structural engineer but I’m free. you still need an engineer for the plans. I only have part of your plans, but you seem to have a 850mm drop from the side… 3 9956 3 6404 The engineering is the engineering. It's irrelevant how much material you have. Unless it fits the requirements of your design the engineer can't "make"it work. You might… 7 9687 |
