hello everyone,
Me and my partner are first home buyer. We put down a deposit for land in a estate in outer northern suburb of melbourne roughly 2 months ago. At the same time we approached a builder to built a custom design home on our behalf. Custom design was more of a necessity than a choice, because the builder didn't a plan to fit that lot and estate guidelines at that point of time, despite it being recommended by the estate agent. The land was supposed to be titled in April, now its being delayed till June.
Two months have passed, and we are yet to see a preliminary drawing. We gave an initial deposit for the building($1500+$38 admin fee) roughly 8 weeks ago, and have had countless meetings, phone conversation, and email exchanges with the Builders's Sales Rep. We even drew up our floor plan using web based floor planning application and handed over to the sales rep. But still no sign of any progress. When we complained to sales rep about it, he goes "this is how things work in australia".
Is this normal ? or are we being taken for a ride ? Does it take more than two months to draw up a plan for 22 square house?
Our estate has rules which doesn't allow us to use any other builder to build in that particular block. Is there a way out of that if the builder continuously ignores us, and we don't make any progress until the land is titled.
