Jeremy & Melissa Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 2Dec 28, 2007 10:09 pm That's terrible news Jerzey21!!!!
Hopefully it won't set you back too far..... I'm sure it will be covered by your builder... I'd say leave a message for them so that they know what has happened, also alert the police. Good Luck... As for them being hopless at the best of times i personally couldn't think of any job worse in the world to do than what they have to do and put up with. Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . I could tell a few stories....
Anyway, I do firmly believe in reporting the crime to police. NOT because they will do anything, but simply so that it gets added to the statistics and some other agency, or media, might make some use of it. Slightly OT: I think this whole "just-installed-then-robbed" situation with new homes is very suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a very organised little racket going with builders in all states. It'd make a damn good "Current Affair" hidden camera investigation. Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 7Dec 29, 2007 9:35 am Some insurance claims will require a police event number anyway, so you really should report it.
Don't rely on the builder doing it, we've seen in another thread where the builder couldn't give a stuff. I totally agree about a conspiracy. How do these thieves know exactly when stuff has just been installed? They don't touch a house for months, then the night after it's all in, bang, gone. They can't simply be that lucky that they just happen to be driving around the neigbourhood casing houses on that particular night. And to remove the sorts of items that go walkabout - ovens, dishwashers, hot water services etc, they would need a small truck, ute, or trailer, and they would be spending some time loading it. Who knows, maybe the delivery drivers get a small kickback fee for passing on info from their delivery lists? Maybe the purcho at the contracts office passes on expected delivery dates & addresses? Wouldn't be the first time. I know of one young kid in the early 90s who was a 'trolley boy' on thursday nights & weekends at the local shopping centre. He was offered $100 for each car off a list that he 'spotted' in the carpark, and phoned through to the crims. $100 is a lot of money when you earn $4.50 an hour. Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 9Dec 29, 2007 12:11 pm We went to the cop shop and they called m, They also told us not to worry about it because its insurance and m's problem, They didnt seem to care at 1st but all ended up fine in the end we will just wait and see if anything gets done Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 10Dec 29, 2007 1:54 pm how did they get in?
they did actually take all your installed lights? jeez! they must have been there for awhile you should get a sign made up saying this home is now under camera survellience you have been warned Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 12Dec 29, 2007 4:21 pm They took 19 low voltage downlights and our kitchen tap water was turned off and so was the power. I think they got through one of the windows they smashed. It wouldnt suprise me if they did it in broad daylight ![]() Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 13Dec 30, 2007 7:14 pm Well this is obvious in new jouncy it is very difficult to find a good house there ..... ![]() Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 14Jan 09, 2008 2:35 pm As long as it's not hand-over yet, normally the builder would take care of that. Just make sure you get your inspector to check everything during hand-over.
The main worry is how it could delay your schedule... Jeremy & Melissa This happened to us, too. But they only took a couple of taps. Which everyone thinks is quite weird. I mean, two taps out of the five sets? And we were the only house on the street. But the builder took care of everything and handover wasn't delayed excessively. Just a couple of days to get the taps back in and fix the door they had wrecked by kicking it in. How have you guys gone wit the whole situation? Is everything still on track? [sneakersss] Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 16Jan 09, 2008 4:35 pm I hope the racket gets exposed soon. Taps, installed lights ? Thefts the day after installation ?
A nice 'soft' crime that the Police can happily ignore. And of course the builders are not going to be fussed - if they're in on the deal of course. Be interesting to see if the replacements were ordered *before* the originals were stolen ! ![]() And who would break in for these things ? Not kids that's for sure. It's obvious that someone's being tipped off somewhere in the chain. Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 17Jan 09, 2008 9:59 pm my thinking is builders do definately care!
and hate theft and damage as much as the next person insurance companys charge an excess of around $500 for each and every claim (at least for smaller builders) which the builder pays (well thats my experience at least) in WA there is a huge program trying to reduce theft/damage on site organised by the housing industry and builders Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 18Jan 09, 2008 10:32 pm Very interesting. Do you any of the practical measures being undertaken ? Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 19Jan 10, 2008 12:03 am this is an old article (first one I found with quick search, its dated 0ct 2006)
but mentions some of the things Building site theft and vandalism is costing millions of dollars annually causing major headaches for building companies across Perth. For major Perth builders such as Dale Alcock, this means losses of over $1.5 million a year, an expense which his building group is doing everything they can to reduce. In 2003 Dale Alcock joined a number of Housing Industry Association builder members to form a campaign called HIA Name and Shame to fight building site theft and vandalism. Since then 91 adults have been charged with over 300 crimes committed on Perth’s building sites. Funded by the home building industry, the campaign has recently taken an assertive role in raising public awareness of the problems and costs associated with building site incidents, offering rewards up to $3,000 for any information leading to the arrest of offenders. Dale Alcock has joined the Housing Industry Association’s Executive Director, John Dastlik in calling for additional support from everyone across Perth to get behind the industry and put a stop to building site crime. “Building site theft and vandalism not only causes significant financial costs, but delays completion times while causing emotional distress for the new home owners and the industry as a whole,” Mr Dastlik said. “We are very concerned about the impact to builders, developers and their customers and require the whole community to dig deep in preventing the relentless crimes taking place on home building sites,” Mr Alcock stated. “The community is being urged to report all suspicious activity to the HIA Name and Shame hotline number, 1800 131 001 and to program this number into their mobile phone so that it is on-hand if needed.” Name and Shame has also partnered with the WA Police Service and has a Memorandum of Understanding through which the campaign is provided with a centralised point of contact within the WA Police Service to report incidents for quick response times. “The HIA Name and Shame campaign is also supported by private investigators and a comprehensive communications campaign that deals with the media and designs promotional material for campaign members and the public,” Mr Dastlik said. “One of the major ways in which we get our message across is through letter-box drops to areas that have proven to be a target for building site crimes as well as through signage in areas under development where campaign members are building,” Mr Dastlik said. To date, close to $4 million worth of goods have been reported stolen or damaged and $65,000 worth of rewards have been provided since the inception of the campaign and the building industry is urging the public to be proactive and assist them in catching the perpetrators of crimes on home building sites by contacting the HIA Name and Shame hotline. -------------------- The campaign began in 2003 and involves four key players; the Western Australian Police, the Housing Industry Association, Meridian Investigators and Builders and developers. Together with government agencies, the campaign aims to identify offenders of building site crime and ensure that they are prosecuted. On conviction all adult offenders are publicly named as a further deterrent to committing offences on building sites. the builders display large advertising on their sites re name and shame and number to report suspicious happenings etc Re: NOT HAPPY JAN :(( 20Jan 10, 2008 6:02 pm Yep, sounds good. But nothing actually practical there. No stats. No results. No new ideas, just all the usual fluffy talk. A number to call ! Hurrah, there's an advance. And response times ? Sure, sure...
Nothing personal, but that's pretty typical "press release" law enforcement. Similar to the situation where laws are made against certain things to satiate the public, but no one is ever arrested or charged. Not that I'd expect anyone (government /police etc) to take this very seriously.
