Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 26, 2011 4:13 pm I recently read somewhere that you don't need skirting boards in walk in robes or built ins. Is this correct? I think it would look better with skirting boards. Or does it depend on the design? Do you have skating boards in your walk in and built ins? Re: Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk i 3Mar 26, 2011 4:20 pm Yes skirting boards in every place including the laundry as well as the ceiling ones in the robes. I think it all depends on the builder to be honest. Re: Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk i 5Mar 26, 2011 4:24 pm hmmm, I just had to check as I've never noticed!! We have in our WIR's in our master, also our linen cupboards in the hallway do, but the built in's in the bedrooms don't! Re: Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk i 6Mar 26, 2011 4:24 pm Yes, everywhere except the under stairs cupboard, but that hasn't even been painted or plastered properly (basically we paid for the door to be fitted and that was it.). IMHO, it looks 'finished' if they have them! ..and I have skirts in the laundry and all bathrooms here, no tiled skirts in my house. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Re: Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk i 10Mar 26, 2011 4:57 pm The only place we have anything different is in the garage - the "skirtings" in there are actually square-edge MDF planks, about 150mm high. All our cupboards - pantry, linen, broom and wardrobes - have the same skirting boards as every room in the house. Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk in? 11Mar 26, 2011 5:03 pm Skirting everywhere except "wet" areas ie all toilets / ensuites / laundry have tile skirts. Even our garage has skirting boards. Some things are worth waiting for. The reason all the eastern staters have skirting everywhere is because they build brick veneer and all their internal walls are sheeted with plaster board. That means that the bottom off the wall has a recess that would normally be designed for flushing. It has to covered otherwise it stands out as unfinished. In WA our hard plaster means we don't have to skirt if we choose not to. Typically I wouldn't bother with robes but wir I would do. Wet areas always get a tile skirt which is far more appropriate for a area that may be subject to water. So if your builder adds 25% it's $15.50 Re: Do you have skirting boards in your built-ins and walk i 19Apr 25, 2011 9:59 am Hi Blue, There should be some sort of skirting in all areas, whether it is timber skirting or tiles. Under stairs storage, not done so much. It saves time and money if not done, but it just looks unfinished and untidy.
