Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 22, 2011 10:01 pm ive been debating whether to write my true and accurate description of our long and stressful build. I know alot of people on here dont write thier opinions as they believe their items wont get fixed. Well i dont think people should be held to ransom by builders and potential customers need to be well informed of pros and cons and make thier own judgements.
ill start by giving a little snippet here of a small part of reason for my anger.... theres plenty more unfortunately We handedover just before christmas with a big list if items that were to be rectified 10 days after new years. we were told that we would be in our new home by cup weekend, when they had to pull down brick wallls and redo most items due to errors we knew we should delay selling our house. we then were told 1st week december so sold our house for settlement before xmas. we had to force them out of a meeting and on site to get our house on track and handover 2 days before settlement, we sighned off on lots of items to be done after christmas break and majority of trades returning day after handover to finish. staff fail to respond to most emails or return phone calls. The quality in the display home is not evident in our home and the whole process has been very stressfull. We just want our home fixed and finished like what we paid for over three months ago. I know alot of people on here dont write thier opinions as they believe their items wont get fixed. Well i dont think people should be held to ransom by clearly incompetent builders and potential customers need to be well informed of pros and cons and make thier own judgements. ill start by giving a little snippet here of a small part of reason for my anger.... theres plenty more unfortunately We handedover just before christmas with a big list if items that were to be rectified 10 days after new years. we were told that we would be in our new home by cup weekend, when they had to pull down brick wallls and redo most items due to errors we knew we should delay selling our house. we then were told 1st week december so sold our house for settlement before xmas. we had to force them out of a meeting and on site to get our house on track and handover 2 days before settlement, we sighned off on lots of items to be done after christmas break and majority of trades returning day after handover to finish. its very clear they dont value thier customers as our builders and staff fail to respond to most emails or return phone calls. The quality in the display home is not evident at all in our home and the whole process has been very stressfull. We just want our home fixed and finished like what we paid for over three months ago. May I ask who is your builder? OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 3Mar 22, 2011 11:02 pm There have been court cases over things like this.. Maybe best not to name the builder. Just for yourself, it would be a terrible thing to have to go through. I certainly hope all your problems get fixed and you can move on & hopefully forget about all the bad and focus on the good. Re: OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 4Mar 22, 2011 11:22 pm I think it's OK to name a builder as long as you don't make accusations. That is, you can say that you are unhappy with your builder (that's a fact), but you can't say your builder is useless (only a court can determine that!). Other clients are probably very happy, im not. Its rediculous for people to be scared of defamation cases for merely stating thier dissatisfaction of a company. in a few instances my builder has been great and we love our home, i just want them to get on with it and give me what i paid for and then i dont have to deal with them anymore.
Re: OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 7Mar 23, 2011 11:54 am Defamation issues aside, it is easy enough for you to find who the OP is building with just by performing a quick search. Laws regarding issues of defamation are long and complex, a word of warning that you may be treading in grey area can be a helpful thing, but I have noticed that threads often get derailed over the topic of defamation laws. Re: OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 8Mar 23, 2011 7:42 pm Hi Kavother, We have a different builder but the same thing happened to us. Our Handover was Dec 22nd and I had 6 items promises to be done as soon as the tradies are back from Christmas Holidays. They closed off 2 but the remaining 4 are still outstanding. Due to the delay I have asked for my money back on the 4 items but the company advised that they don't do that and that they will fulfil the contract. We love the house and getting in before Christams was a great advantage to us, but my rating of my builder has dropped from around a 7 when we moved in and now I would rate them a 3 and I would not recommend them to anyone. Magee Re: OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 10Mar 25, 2011 12:48 am I would suggest getting an independent inspection carried out on your home if the builder is disputing it needs to be done. If they are not disputing the issues but are just not getting around to it, email them explaining the issues, asking when resolution will be, and note that they must reply within (x) days (eg 3 working days). If you need to take the issue further with authorities, you will need to have done this, and keep a record of all conversations with them. In WA we have the Builders Registration Board, where home owners can bring up issues and ask for resolution through the BRB - I'm not sure where you are located but if you have no luck having the items fixed you could take it further with the board in your area. You will find that some builders are still repairing handover items when the 4 or 6 month maintenance period comes up, I don't particularly agree with it but it unfortunately depends on how urgent the items are. Re: OVER IT - 3 months later waiting for handover items 12Mar 25, 2011 7:04 am Kratos Can't you hold back final stage payment until all is in order? thats why im angry, they got thier money in full over 3 months ago, we have had to have tradespeople through our home while we are living it and im not comfortable with that as one of thier tradies stole our computer and camera - there were about 15 different trades working here the day after we mived and someone took advantage of a house full of people! We also paid for the siteclean as they dumped alot of rubbish on our neighbours, the builder acknowledged this is what happened but is yet to reimburse us. This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
