Pine would be the cheapest, and is what our builder has quoted, but we're just wondering if long term it's the best option. Obviously hard wood would be more attractive, but we're just trying to go with what we can afford, and if it gets stained and covered with carpet I'm sure it will still look nice - but will it last? We have a tight budget - but we don't want to do the cheapest possible option if it's going to need repairs or something in the foreseeable future. I can probably ask a similar question about the decking and handrails etc as well - is pine the best option for the budget concious or are there hidden drawbacks we should be aware of?
