Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 08, 2011 12:23 am There are two huge boarding houses with twenty self contained units being constructed in the the backyards of the two houses behind my home in lilyfield, inner west sydney. They are joined in the middle and are wedged behind two californian bungalows in campbell avenue (a heritage conservation area). My neighbours and I are strongly opposing them ( eighty-one objections to council). Trouble is, the developer is a cashed-up bloke who doesn't care about the residents of the street and he stands to make 8K per unit, per annum for a decade...this is on top of the rent he will get each week per unit.
This is developer greed in the guise of affordable rental housing for low income earners... council planning officers have recommended approval for these (beggars belief)...when they vote tomorrow we will base our votes at the march 26th state election based on what our councillors did with this issue. Thanks Frank (Sartor), NSW the developer state...riding roughshod over the rights of local councils and the will of the community. If anyone would like to help our community please go to the following website and sign the petition against the development. Basically, gives neighbours even less say in what happens next door. Even with the old system, some people were allowed to build silly things in a silly way and in a silly location, often despite posing obvious immediate or future issues to the 'next doors'. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Inappropriate Buiding developments under SEPP 3Mar 08, 2011 9:34 am I expect the SEPP will be scraped in 10yrs, its a pathetically thought out(or not thought out, if you like) piece of legislation, but in the mean-time we have to live with it, & the fall out from it for ever. Re: Inappropriate Buiding developments under SEPP 4Mar 08, 2011 10:30 am SEPP? can we please have a definition for the uninformed among us? Re: Inappropriate Buiding developments under SEPP 5Mar 08, 2011 11:05 am Oh Sorry Lex, I meant 8K or $8000...definition of SEPP = State Environmental Planning Policy(or lack thereof) affordable rental housing. Effectively council has had the decision making process ripped out them...giving Keneally & Sartor et al. the power to build anything anywhere, anytime and quickly. So, watch out...one coming your way soon! Re: Inappropriate Buiding developments under SEPP 6Mar 08, 2011 11:20 am Its a NSW planning policy, Its basically a good concept, to reduce costs & complications involved in building applications, but of course it has been stuffed up. Council must approve a building application if it meets certain criteria. Only good for developers in large land realeases, building on level ground imo. doesnt take into account building on sloping ground, or designers attempting to design sustainable family homes using passive heating/cooling elements, ie living areas upstairs bedrooms downstairs. Garages must be setback 5.5m from building line(instead of 4.5m as in most areas), obviously require an extra 1m of concrete driveway (not good enviromentally) Balconies over 3m above NGL(natural ground level) can only be 12m2, (thats ridculous!) Must have a living area downstairs (on two storey dwellings) thats the way i read it anyway cheers woodchip Re: Inappropriate Buiding developments under SEPP 7Mar 08, 2011 11:46 am There may be building restrictions that hinder developers but basically it's easy money (similar to the insulation scheme) for developers to cram high density living quarters into tiny parcels of land...what rights do the residents in adjoining properties have? It's open slather for greed and exploitation - IMO find out more; www.gopetition.com/petition/42925.html You can put a roller blind behind the shutters. It will be much less noticeable when not in use. 3 18061 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 11076 I want to build a bigger driveway (without a nature strip) than has been approved under my CDC. I’ve also had a DA approved to build a deck. It looks like I can do this… 0 3843 |
