Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 07, 2011 6:40 pm Hi all, I know you are not supposed to grease roller doors, but our panel lift garage door screeches badly and doesn't appear to have the same runners as our roller door... Any advice??? Thanks Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 2Mar 07, 2011 9:25 pm If it's noisy - 3M makes a specific garage spray lubricant to help make things smoother.. That might help. Sorry, this might sound a bit nuffy... but- How do you mean the panel lift vs yr roller door.. you mean yr front garage door to yr back garage access ? Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 3Mar 08, 2011 8:16 am We were told by our builder and the manufacturer of our panel lift garage door to use a silicone spray on the tracks. That's it. No cleaning, wiping, clearing the tracks required. Just spray. Works a treat. We had the same problem. Also get the door serviced every so often - think 12mths we were told. Doesn't cost much at all and helps look after it, especially the spring tension. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 4Mar 08, 2011 11:46 am Thx to both of you, Yes I was talking about the panel lift door ( ie the front door ) - we have a roller door as the rear access.... off to Bunnings for some silicone spray.. Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 6Mar 08, 2011 12:03 pm If your going t grease, grease the spring above. I bit that is where 90% of your noise is coming from. First May by spray with WD40 then wipe clean. Then use some thicker oil or grease. Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 7Mar 09, 2011 7:27 am If I remember correctly, our builder specifically told us not to use WD40 (can't remember why). They recommended silicone spray. This might have been for windows too. We haven't tried any yet. Oze, what's your silicone spray called / brand name? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 8Mar 09, 2011 7:57 am Yes WD40 on its own is bad news. It tends to evaporate and then you are left worse off. The tracks generally shouldn't need much maintenance because they usually have play in the tracks and are not tight fitting. Whereas the other stuff - such as silicone spray or 3M's specific garage door lube ,claims that it's been formulated to not attract dirt..etc etc. I can't comment on the accuracy of that, as I know a friend of mine who's been using the olive oil spray for her garage door... Many many years now. .and it's been fine.. lol.. Different strokes. Re: Can I grease a panel lift door ??? 14Mar 22, 2011 8:19 pm have a look at Nulon EziGlide... Red can available from auto stores. Amazing stuff! They use it on power window mechanisms inside car doors because it doesnt attract dust (which makes the situation worse) along with sunroofs etc... Just checked the website and they actually do recommend it for garage doors as well! I personally think pivot door are over the top, as you said a bit impractical having a small useless section and poor insulation. I’m pretty happy with a 920x 2040 with… 1 374 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15276 |
