Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 02, 2011 1:09 pm The block next door to us is being built on at the moment. Their SS has asked if they can use our power until theirs is connected in exchange for $100 - that was fine but I'm having a few issues with them now. They've been building for about a month now and they're still using our power, shouldn't they have their own by now? Also, we still haven't seen the $100! Is there any reason for them to go near our meter box? We have a power point on the alfresco and no fences, so they have been plugging their things in there. Yesterday I got home though and our meter box was open and the hinge was broken. We had to literally bend a piece of metal so we could close it. They don't seem to understand where the boundary is - they have so much crap spread along the side of our house and they've dumped a huge pile of dirt and broken bricks in our backyard. 'Huge' as is it's nearly as tall as me 'huge'. They're parking across our driveway and using it for access to the block which is stupid because they're on a corner block - I don't know why they need to be near our driveway at all. The reason I haven't complained yet is that the builders are building and selling the house, either off the plan, partially completed or fully completed, and they're selling it through my work. Also, some of my best friends are going to start building with them in the next few months. I don't want to be "that person" who causes trouble, but I feel as though we've been generous enough in letting them use our power and that they're stretching the friendship by treating our block as their dumping ground. I've left a message for the business owner to call me back, but how much do you think I can say without offending anybody? I know they need to clean up their act, but I don't want to cause trouble with work or my friends - I just don't see how we, as innocent bystanders, should have to bear the brunt of their rudeness and messiness. Any suggestions? Neighbour borrowing our power and other issues 2Mar 02, 2011 1:30 pm Just pull the plug out and chop the end off. They'll soon take a hint Re: Neighbour borrowing our power and other issues 4Mar 02, 2011 2:37 pm You obviously need to raise it with the builder next door. Make sure you take pics and send them to the SS. Also make sure you point you that you haven't received the money you were promised yet. Is the meter on the same side of the house as the alfresco? It dopes seem quite odd for them to be anywhere near the meter, but I've seen lots of strange things recently. Re: Neighbour borrowing our power and other issues 5Mar 02, 2011 3:01 pm They may have overloaded the power point and needed to reset the safety switch, that is the only reason that I can think of. Do you deal with them directly at work? Can you get your partner (if you have one) to do the face to face? Maybe even discuss it with your manager and mention that you have a conflict of interest and let them know how it troubling you. Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Build Thread Re: Neighbour borrowing our power and other issues 6Mar 02, 2011 6:35 pm I spoke to my manager and explained what was going on. He was really reasonable about the whole thing and said that he didn't mind if I said something to them - I guess he knows I'm not a rude or unreasonable person and so wouldn't say or do anything that could damage our relationship with him. The owner called me back later this afternoon and he was actually really embarrassed about it and said he'd come and clean it up this arvo. It didn't happen, but I'll give him until tomorrow night before I call him again I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 10049 Need more photos from around the house including your gutters. We have had 3 of the wettest years in a row for some time so that wouldn't be helping 3 6956 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14247 |
