They are fairly general as I don't know how big your block is and how flexible you are to change. I think your family room, dining room and kitchen are going to fairly gloomy facing south and with such a big veranda. I would swap the WIR and Ensuite so you can have a North Facing Window in the Ensuite rather than a West facing Window. Don't have a West facing Window in the Living Room as that would make it unbearable hot on Summer Evenings. With Bathroom and Laundry at the opposite end of the house you will need instantaneous hot water for both ends of the house or running water for several minutes to get hot water in the Kitchen and En Suite, if the hot water service is outside the laundry. Re: House Floor plans... 3Feb 28, 2011 6:08 am change the master bed door to open the other way for more privacy and I would want a closed off room..maybe the living room, cos all open plan with all those bedrooms = all those kids would drive me insane. there is no where to hide. while you are in the kitchen you can hear people in the family room and the living room..arrgh!! and you can only have 1 tv as it would be too noisy. if you have a 'tv room' closed off in the living room, you can then have playstation there, or a tv free room and playstatiom in study, if it is a family home, it needs areas for families to chill out it. reading, homework, listening to the news, music, playstation etc Re: House Floor plans... 4Feb 28, 2011 3:33 pm Hi there, Thanks for the feedback. The house will be built on roughly an acre and I am quite open to new ideas and change. Maybe we could swap the living room and study some how. We couls them make the veranda small letting more natural light in and close of the lounge for a bit of piece and quiet? What do you think? Would love to hear other suggestions! TIA Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: House Floor plans... 5Feb 28, 2011 3:43 pm If I had an acre I would look to go for a passive solar house with a lot of the more important rooms on the north side. It would have a long north facing roof for solar panels and solar hot water. Re: House Floor plans... 6Feb 28, 2011 4:32 pm Swap your bathroom and toilet around so you have better access to the loo from the laundry & outside. saves having muddy footprints up the hall. Plus bed 2 will not get the noise from the toilet flushing. (if you can. might be a road north) Re: House Floor plans... 10Mar 02, 2011 7:00 am Our block is in a court of acre blocks. The front of our house which will face the road is facing to the north. We want to have all the living opening out onto the backyard so not sure what we should do. We're in Vic too and will need an air con at least. The distance will make the house seem more private and you can always plant a hedge. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
