Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 26, 2011 9:24 pm Do you have a hot water controller? Do you see it as a necessity or a waste of money? I would like to have two different hot water settings. One for all the bathrooms and another for the kitchen and maybe laundry. Is it possible to permanently set the maximum water temperatures for these two zones or does the setting have to change every time before you open the tap? Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 2Feb 26, 2011 9:42 pm I don't have one, but would be interested to see if the controller can make the water hotter? I find all of the hot water in my house never gets hot enough, I believe it's a regulatory thing so that people don't burn themselves (especially with kids etc). so I would be surprised if a hot water controller can override this? Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 3Feb 26, 2011 10:04 pm regardless of the water controller you must have a tempering valve which limits the hot water in Bathrooms and kitchen to 55°c. Water temp controllers can't over ride this by law. As for permanent, no but the controllers can be set individually for outlets wwith the right set up. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 4Feb 27, 2011 12:53 am We have three controllers. One each in the main bathrooms and one in the kitchen. You set the temperature on each controller and that is what they stay at. As one of the other posters said you cant go past 55 degrees. I must admit they are a pain. Everytime you loose power you turn on the water and realise you have no heat. Have to turn the water and reset each one. We have had a bit of trouble with ours and would much prefer to have to two hot water systems then what we have. Total waste of money imho. Caz Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 5Feb 27, 2011 11:47 am i cant see how many people believe they are a waste of money. However there are some benifits which people don't realize. 1. Because I set my hot water to 39. If while some else is having a shower and some one interfers with another tap this has no bearing on the person in the shower and the temp doesn't change. 2. I have no trouble getting babys bath to the correct temp. 3. I believe it is more energy efficient with the controllers. Rather than heating to 55 then colling by mixing with cold water. However as per the OP i don't believe you cant set different rooms to separate taps and there is no way to for the unit to work out which tap is on. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 6Feb 27, 2011 2:37 pm Thanks so much for that B STAR. Do you only use the hot water tap when having a shower? What about mixers? Also, how often do you find yourself changing temperature? Do you have a controller in each bathroom/powder and kitchen? Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 7Feb 27, 2011 2:53 pm I always use hot water only. Sometimes i might still find it too warm so i add a little cold water. I have two controllers. One is in the main area of the house. Which means it is very close to the kitchen main bathroom and laundry. The other will be (not yet installed) in the ensuite which is a little further from the other one. You will find it not something you change a lot. I did find it very handy when setting up a bath for a new born baby. No more fiddling around. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 8Feb 27, 2011 4:37 pm Thanks agan. Your bot water pressure must be very good not to have to use cold water I hope ours will be like yours. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 9Feb 27, 2011 9:41 pm We have 2 hot water temperature controllers, but they are linked and if I adjust one, it automatically adjusts the other one automatically. One is in the kitchen, one is in the main bathroom. Since they are linked I have no idea why we have 2! Maximum temp is 55 degrees. Mine suggests 42 degrees for a shower, but it's still a little too hot. Our water pressure is not great so I usually set it to 55degrees and add cold water. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 10Feb 28, 2011 9:17 am We had tempering valves installed (which I think is mandatory) to seperate the kitchen and laundry from the bathrooms. The maximum water temperature was around 50 degrees which whilst hot was not enough to scold too quickly. I am pretty sure this is law now??? Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 11Feb 28, 2011 10:02 am A tempering valve is only required for sanitry areas (bathrooms, powder rooms etc). It is optional if you want it for the kitchen and laundry. In fact, we each have 2. They work very well and were not an extra cost. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 13Mar 02, 2011 6:57 pm Thank you all! Was great reading your responses Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 14Mar 10, 2011 3:54 pm How can I know if our hot water pressure will be good or not? Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 15Mar 10, 2011 3:56 pm We are getting a Rinnai INFINITY 32 but one of the main bathrooms is quite far from the unit Do you have a hot water controller? 16Mar 10, 2011 4:22 pm You won't know until you move in unfortunately. We have fantastic water pressure here but our rental at the front has shocking pressure (and we are over 80m from the road and connections). A plumber did tell us the other week that we have massive pipes and that assists in good pressure. Why are you going with a 32? We have the one under that and have 4 ensuites as well as the laundry, kitchen and two powder rooms. Our plumber told me that the 32 is more suited to units or commercial purposes, overkill for a residential house. Oh and our home is 55sq and the kitchen is over 20m from the unit approx. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 18Mar 10, 2011 4:30 pm Oh, the reason we are going with 32 is because our plumber (and a number of other plumbers we consulted) said that's the one we need.
From their website: The Rinnai INFINITY 32 is designed purely for those that have large Hot Water needs such as 3+ bathroom homes. With a variable flow rate of up to a massive 37 litres per minute, the INFINITY 32 is a serious hot water unit! http://www.rinnai.com.au/index.php?opti ... d=2&id=115 Re: Do you have a hot water controller? 19Mar 10, 2011 4:32 pm kyton the kitchen is over 20m from the unit approx.
