Surely an average frame will see out this time period?
I have seen a lot of advertising relating to the frame and all that do are rather unpleasant designs in my view. I really don't care for a sortino - ugly and boxy in my opinion. When I was a kid, sofas were purchased to last 20 to 30 years and so they had to be extra strong. These days, people get bored with the same old furniture and want to change. It seems that a consensus view has been formed on the need for a good frame without too much questioning of the actual need. Sounds a lot like sucessful marketing to me. We didnt see the point in having mega expensive lounges - will probably want to change them in a few years, and we dont have to be having a cow if something is spilt or kids climb all over it! btw, I'm in point cook. btw, to add to my confusion, turn out there are so many of types of foam out there (according to oz design website). arghhhhhhhh ![]() Re: sofa 12Dec 19, 2007 12:39 pm ![]() yeah, why not? is it better in quality wise? btw, I'm in point cook. btw, to add to my confusion, turn out there are so many of types of foam out there (according to oz design website). arghhhhhhhh ![]() I have a much simpler method - know what style/look i'm after, set a price, know what colour i want and then i sit on it. for ages. and ages. and make sure it's comfortable. then, if it has all the above i buy it. oh, and also make sure it will fit where you want it to go. [sneakersss] Re: sofa 13Dec 19, 2007 12:48 pm I suggest that you buy the best quality sofa that you can afford or can stretch yourself to buy.
Frame(steel is better quality), Foam, Material/Leather qualities are very important... Check the warranty period and what it covers. Understand what it is that you want the sofa for, lounging to watch tv, or formal lounge etc and buy the sofa with the appropriate support (foams etc). No point buying a sofa that is hard as a rock, when you like to lie down in front of the tv after a long day... ![]() Go for reputable names, eg. Arthur G is based in Oakleigh and has great quality leather furniture. Shop around to get the best price. Quality will not be cheap though, so remember that you get what you pay for. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mek, i love the King Furniture range.... maybe oneday soon ![]() Re: sofa 14Dec 19, 2007 2:20 pm I think King Furniture looks more expensive than it really is:
http://www.kingfurniture.com.au/specials.html Although if you have small kids, there's really no point in buying expensive sofas. Re: sofa 15Dec 19, 2007 4:46 pm I'm surprised that so many people assume that they will only have their couches for a few years. Must be some busy decorators out there ![]() I'd rather buy the best I can afford and have them last. And just because you have kids you shouldn't assume you need 'cheap' because the kids will wreck them ! A good quality couch will withstand the barrage and come out the other side still looking good. Personally I've always gone for simple lines in thick leather. Looks good, lasts decades, is tough as hell, is easily cleaned, and never goes out of fashion. Re: sofa 16Dec 19, 2007 4:59 pm goto any whitehorse furniture store pick the model of sofa you want

I've heard of a company in the USA called SofaKing. There ads say "everyone can afford one because they are SofaKing cheap"! I frown at the trend of people buying cheap with the view to replace after a short while. A throw-away society it is becoming! ![]() A year ago, I bought new lounges to replace our 20+ year old ones. I gave the old ones to a young couple setting up house, and they still look as good as new, (although they have damaged foam and internal damage. I paid $6.5k for a new 3.5 seater and 2.5 seater. Here's some of my reasons; It has solid jarrah frames and is locally made by a reputable manufacturer. It has premium Dunlop foams, and quality webbing. It has quality Warwick velveteen fabric. It is beautiful and opulent looking, and it is wonderfully comfortable. It has an outstanding warranty, including lifetime structural warranty including foams. Cheap lounges are usually made from chipboard. The suspension system (seat webbing) is stapled to the chipboard, but this obviously isn't too sturdy, and doesn't last long. Cheap foams will collapse quickly after other internal components give way. Cheap fabrics will tear & be damaged too. They are just crappy, and I wouldn't want one if it was being given away! But that's just me! ![]() Ash. Re: sofa 18Dec 19, 2007 8:39 pm ![]() I've heard of a company in the USA called SofaKing. There ads say "everyone can afford one because they are SofaKing cheap"! Are you serious Ash???? ![]() ![]() How can they get away with using that in their advertising???? ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: sofa 19Dec 19, 2007 9:12 pm Ash what I was trying to say is that I think people think King Furniture is outrageously expensive, but it isn't (this is not to say they are cheap) - and I agree with your posts regarding quality, be it sofas, carpets or other. I will buy quality over price any day and any deals that say "value for money" I will not even look at because for me, that just says bad quality.
I understand some people have a different view and like bargains, so please don't take this in a wrong way. Re: sofa 20Dec 19, 2007 9:15 pm Same here.... we prefer quality and looks.
I prefer to save and buy the best quality, comfortable and good looking sofa that is appropriate for our lifestyle. We have kids.... so leather is the best option for us. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! |
