Quite possible it may be a possum inside. I just hope it doesn't chew the wires out! Is there anything I can do now to scare it off? I'm banging the walls to stop it from doing that scratching/biting thingy that it's doing? Who should I be calling? To do it single handedly.. seriously.. its a PAIN! Help: Something inside the walls, possibly a possum 2Feb 25, 2011 6:28 am The only times we heard something in our walls it was mice EEEK!!! Try putting some traps around - at least 3-4 and put peanut butter on them. Not too much just enough to make them try to eat it. Mice sound huge when they are in the walls. Good luck. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Help: Something inside the walls, possibly a possum 3Feb 25, 2011 9:35 am Yep - we occasionally hear mice in the walls - especially above our bed scratching against the plaster. I've thrown those sachet baits in the roof a couple of times and the noise seems to stop for a bit, then they come back. I'm not exactly sure how they are getting in, although I have heard they are able to crawl in through the weep holes in the bricks. Second Time 'Round Re: Help: Something inside the walls, possibly a possum 4Feb 25, 2011 11:28 am I lived in a rural house that used to have this problem. A few packets of mouse bait in the loft space usually cleared it for about a year and then they were back. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Help: Something inside the walls, possibly a possum 5Feb 25, 2011 11:42 am We have something similar. Noticed scratching noises near our front entry around sunrise... Think it's possibly birds, rather than rodents, as there's no droppings in the roof, yet there's a gap near the eaves where birds can get in Re: Help: Something inside the walls, possibly a possum 6Feb 25, 2011 1:38 pm We've had possums in the walls and my husband has waited until they're out at night and then blocked up where we thought they were getting in. You can set traps but you're not allowed to remove them from the property (dump elsewhere), I seem to recall. If it is a possum in your roof you really don't want to bait and then have it die in your wall. One chewed a wire in my parents' place, died and started rotting. The smell was revolting - my poor Dad had to knock a hole in the wall to remove it. Ugh, it was just disgusting. I've heard mice scurrying in a roof before, but possums come back around sunrise, scratch and growl and sometimes make blood-curdling screeching noises that no mouse could ever make! If you're in Melbourne, try a company called Peter the Possum Man (and I'm sure there are many others, I've just heard of that one). They got rid of the possums at my parents', found the hole, got the possums out, blocked it up and they've never been back in the roof/walls since. He said we couldn't set a trap, as they are protected species, instead, try to see where they were coming from & block it. We did that & thank God the loud chewing at night stopped a short time later.
