Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 23, 2011 1:18 pm Hi all Just looking for opinions here. We have a 1972 double brick house in perth and I am personally not a great fan of the bricks used, although they are better than many other colours used in that period at least! We are trying to decide if it is worthwhile to render (likely cream colour). This has been brought up as we want rollerblinds and the installers say it will be difficult to do afterwards so we should do it before if we think we will want it done. Two questions: 1. In your opinion would you render this house - do you think the improvement in looks justifies the cost? 2. from my quick browsing this morning there appears to be acrylic render vs sand finish painted render? What are the differences (does the acrylic render need any maintenance, are you repainting the sand render every 10yrs etc etc). And how does the price vary between the two. Thanks in advance for any opinions! Lauren Re: to render or not? and render wtih acrylic or sand 3Feb 23, 2011 3:49 pm The bricks look OK to me. Personally I am not a big fan of rendering whole houses. It wouldn't add anything to the value of the house as far I was concerned as I see it as something extra that needs painting. Re: to render or not? and render wtih acrylic or sand 4Feb 24, 2011 11:55 am Are you talking about the aluminium roller shutters, or the canvas type roller blinds? Reason I'm asking is that I have the canvas roller blinds to all 4 of the bedrooms of my house, and we're also getting our house rendered, but I was told that the roller blinds will have to come off anyway for them to render. I was going to look at something else later on for the outside of the windows, or go for something better, such as nice roller blinds on the inside of the windows instead. Re: to render or not? and render wtih acrylic or sand 5Feb 27, 2011 1:03 pm aluminium roller shutters. They either have to remove the rollershutter and render, but then the width will have changed and the rollershutter wont fit, or can painstakingly render around the tracks, which will be time consuming and costly. I think we have decided just to do the roller shutters on our bedroom window, and leave the rest until later. Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
