Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 23, 2011 12:34 pm Hi All,
I just bought the house and thinking to renovate my current wooden external wall. As it started to come off .. I try to put the minimum cost to do renovation but want to make sure the choice is right Any idea how much does it cost (price + labour) and the advantage between bricks and gyprocks? Also with gyprock, how long does it last for and any advice on which type to choose? Thanks a lot. Re: House external wall: Bricks and Gyprocks? 2Feb 23, 2011 12:46 pm I might be confused, but isn't Gyprock a brand name for CSR's plasterboard? I haven't seen a Gyprock product that was meant for external cladding? Unless they also have cement sheeting under that brand... Re: House external wall: Bricks and plasterboard? 4Feb 24, 2011 1:31 pm Plasterboard is Gyprock. You don't want to use plaster externally as it absorbs moisture and expands. You need to choose the look you want. Brick, Render, weatherboard Then the material Cement sheeting and be rendered as can bricks or blocks. Bricks come in a massive range of colors and patterns. Weatherboards can be timber, but you can get colorbond/steel cladding and vinyl cladding too. The colorbond./steel and vinyl are pre colored and don't need much maintenance. Re: House external wall: Bricks and plasterboard? 5Feb 24, 2011 3:24 pm We used Weathertex for our last Reno - it was easy to put up and looks great. We got ours from Bunnings. Fibro (cement sheeting) is probably the cheapest option (although I've never priced it) Re: House external wall: Bricks and plasterboard? 6Mar 01, 2011 10:30 am Thanks guys for your advice. I have looked on weatherboard, fibro cement, vinyl cladding on the website and found that in one website that the longest type (stays for 50 years) is vinyl cladding (type: duratuff) where weatherboard (type: weathertex) stays for 25 years ... Is that true? what would be the best option then among those types regarless the price (not counted the brick) Btw, I am looking for smooth big board rather comes in a plank and stay for really long time. Any suggestions? Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7933 What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2553 Plasterboard Gyprock is very popular as a reveal liner these days. You need to provide a way of supporting it, we use a modified timber reveal or bracket. You will be… 1 4743 |
