Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 20, 2011 7:46 pm I have my suspicions that my water tank / Rain Bank is not functioning correctly. My water bill seems to be going up and up. I thought it was just because we had Christmas at home and had a house full of people staying for a week etc. but today just out of curiosity while watering the garden of the tap labeled "tank water" I went over to my town water metre and to my horror, it was clicking over! I let go of the trigger on the hose and watched the metre stop so I know for sure my tank water tap is delivering town water. I have a 3000 L tank with a Davey RainBank all plumbed in etc. I've read thru the instructions but unfortunately I don't have a clue as to how to test it to see if it's busted. Any ideas on how to test it to see if it's faulty before I ring them tomorrow? Rgds Leonard. Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 3Feb 20, 2011 8:44 pm A few things to check! Check there is water in your tank. Tap on the outside starting at the top and working down. You should notice a change in sound at the water level. Look in the top strainer you mey be able to see the water level. Check that the outlet valve from the tank is on. Normally the handle would be in line with the pipe rather than at right angles to the flow direction. Check that the power is on the pump unit at the power point and that the plug is in the power point correcty If all this is correct turn off the town water suppy to the pump/valve unit and try the hose again for water. The pump should run and water should run from the tank. It is possible that there is an air lock in the pump but there may be a bleed valve to remove the air. Google for a manual for your model unit and read the setup and testing parts. Hopefully this should sort your probems. Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 4Feb 20, 2011 8:51 pm Our rainbank was faulty and had to be replaced. The pump is plugged into the rainbank and the rainbank is plugged into the outdoor powerpoint. We tested the outdoor powerpoint with a hairdryer and it worked fine, when we plugged the pump into the outdoor powerpoint it ran. We then knew the rainbank was faulty. Try this. Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 5Feb 20, 2011 8:56 pm I know someone that this happened to and they had not plugged it in and turned on the power to the box www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 6Feb 20, 2011 9:57 pm Yep the tank is full and I checked the Powerpoint has juice. I'll turn the mains water off tomorrow and try the tank water tap. I had another read of the book and I need to see what lights the unit is displaying. Red = town water. Green = tank water Yellow = unit in manual overide My pump is an in-tank submersible and the book says that provided the pump is in sufficient water the unit will self prime. I'm really hoping I don't have an airlock. Anyways - thanks for the ideas. I'll let you know how I go. Cheers Leonard. Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 7Feb 21, 2011 10:05 am Update - My rainbank is stuffed. I turned off the town water and tried the tank water tap - nothing. I bypassed the rainbank and plugged the in-tank pump directly to the power and I was able to pump water out of my tank. I just rang Davey and logged a fault call. Re: I think my water tank / rainbank isn't working 9Feb 21, 2011 5:38 pm B STAR it could be clogged. If you have time and can easily do check to see there are no obvious blockages. Just in case they try to charge you. Cheers but it isn't clogged. All of the lights don't work on it so the thing is well and truly buggered. Thanks for the tips on how to test it.
