Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 19, 2011 5:39 pm Hi all, My question is regarding Electricians, After getting hammered by the floods in Brisbane, an electrical contractor sent an apprentice and tradesman ( 6 months out of his time) to check wiring and make sure it was safe by discontecting all powerpoints etc.... My question is that i have just been sent a bill for just over $4000.00 when i checked the hourly rates they have charged both guys at $78 plus gst .... DO you think that is fair ???? Oh and before you ask... a hydrogolist came to the house and told us it was rising water not FLOODING so we are not covered.. Thanks for your advise Regards Havetowork !!! Did you request the electrical contractor? Did you get call out rates up front? Re: Hammered by the floods Brisbane 3Feb 23, 2011 2:42 pm We had a tradesman and his apprentice do some work at our house ... tradesman was about $70ish but apprentice was about $30ish ... pretty sure in any case an apprentice wouldn't earn the same as a tradesman?!? Re: Hammered by the floods Brisbane 4Feb 24, 2011 5:22 pm I too had a stoush with an electrical mob about charges. Have they clearly shown the hourly rates for each person and time spent? The electrician is about $70-85 but the apprentice is about $30-40 depending on the firm. If they have charged equal rates, then I would be fighting the charge. An apprentice cannot do any work unsupervised and therefore is not qualified to be charged out at same rates.
