Browse Forums General Discussion Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 2Feb 19, 2011 5:01 pm I highly recommend using hebel powerfloor in between floors. It works out to around $80 per square metre (installed) and is a great thermal and sound insulator.
I wouldn't use it for outside Walls tho. Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 3Feb 19, 2011 5:45 pm Just using it now to build in underneath a fully waterproofed deck.... as said above, great for thermal insulation, i am going to use it as a nice cool room for those terrible QLD summer days Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 6Feb 19, 2011 6:47 pm I would much prefer hebel over brick veneer, unfortunately our builder doesn't offer it as an option. I understand that it is better insulating than brick veneer, and better for soundproofing. Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 7Feb 19, 2011 10:32 pm another question reguarding the hebel flooring. Does anyone know if this can be polished so you can have a polished concrete look or not. Would there be a problem where they join it. Any ideas. I understand that it is better insulating than brick veneer, and better for soundproofing. I can't see how it would be better sound insulating. Its a thinner product with less mass, I would love to be wrong though as I am currently looking at hebal panels for my place. Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 9Feb 20, 2011 8:56 am The other option is to go with Hebel blocks, with brick outer face. That's what I'm doing for my house extension, and you get the benefit of Hebel's fantastic insulating and sound proofing properties, plus the security of a solid brick wall. The piccie below shows some construction detail (without the brickwork yet). This is a single story extension, however I know you can go multi-story with Hebel. Hebel is aerated concrete so has lots and lots of tiny air pockets which vastly improve the insulating properties. For the same reason, they don't work well as thermal mass. I highly doubt that you can have polished concrete hebel flooring. For polished concrete they recommend 32mpa as using normal concrete of 20mpa can cause it to pit and show tiny air pockets (what a concreter told me) so trying to polish aerated concrete would probably be a disaster. Hebel panels for external walls can be problematic as they are prone to chipping and denting. Usually they are then rendered over for protection. My building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53000 Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 11Feb 24, 2011 6:00 pm I'm sorry but how can anyone say that Hebel is a great insulator? Moderate at best with an R-value of 1.4 for 250mm block alone. Yes it's aerated but that does make it an automatic winner for insulation. For floors, the best it achieves is an R-value of 0.15 for 75mm soundfloor with an MC of 5%. To get anything that's reasonable, you need to be using 300mm thick flooring to get an R-value of 1.71. Re: hebel wall and flooring panels 13Feb 24, 2011 6:56 pm GreenB, are you saying that the particle board/plywood or whatever it is that they normally use on the floor in 2 storey houses is a better thermal an sound insulator than hebel powerfloor? I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6148 0 10919 I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look).
