I am currently renovating (or at least trying to) my kitchen in a groundfloor apartment - part of a boutique block of 8.
I went ahead and bought appliances before properly checking the requirements to install them and now have a major problem.
I have gas in the building so going for a gas cooktop but went for an electric oven - unfortunatley this requires a special high voltage wire/connection. there is one such connection in the kitchen but it is currently used by the electric water heater. Apparently you cannot have the oven and heater on the same wire so I am left with the following options and am not sure which one to pursue ...
(1) Run a new cable from the switch board (which currently has not provision for this)
Issue: There does not seem to be any easy way to do this - It is an old apartment and there is some space under the floorboards but it is not obvious (at least to me) how wire can be transported from the switch board into the kitchen. And god knows how much it will cost.
Question: Has anyone done this before and can tell me the $ I will be looking at.
(2) Replace with internal gas heater
Issue: Found suitable model from Bosch but it requires a fuelage or whatever else that piping is called. There is a wall vent in the kitchen that I could possibly use but not sure it will do the trick ...
Question: Is it worth going down this path?
(3) Replace with external gas heater / wall mounted
Issue: Part of a strata so am unclear if permission swill be given and if not whether I have any recourse
Question: Has anyones strata taken offence to replacing an old ineffiencient water heater with a more environmentally friendly gas one only because it will be wall mounted externally...what to do to protest any decision
(4) Exchange current appliances with a combined gas cooktop and oven ... or at least go for a stand alone gas oven
Issue: I really like what I have and do not like the options availabel under here plus I have opened the carton for the oven (bit not taken it out) so am not sure if the company will exchange. also I di not like the stand alone gas ovene as functionality there is prety limited.
Questions: Appliance company likely to exchange?
So any advise re: any of the above will be useful.
Thanks Novita
