Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 04, 2011 8:41 pm Hi All Was wondering if people can give me some help/advice/pictures of any wall to wall built in cabinets that they may have where the tv sits on the top. We are thinking of putting cabinets (either cupboards or drawers) in our lounge in order to get more storage and have a neater looking finish. A friend of mine had something like this in her house with a mesh on the drawers/cupboards so the remote could work. THanks in advance. Re: Built in TV cabinets 3Feb 05, 2011 6:52 pm sorry I dont have any photos to show you, but we had one in our last house. My hubby (a builder) built out a wall that was say 2m long. It was built out by about 1/2 m in timber frame/gyprocked. This created like a large frame say 150mm in thickness. There was a large opening in middle - say 1/2 way up the wall. Under this we had a cabinet maker make a 3 sectioned cabinet, 3 openings for dvd player etc, and under those was 3 drawers for cd's, dvd etc. On top of this sat our TV. Above the TV was a downlight in the "frame". And then I painted a feature wall behind the telly so it looked really lovely. Will be doing again in our reno. Not 100% certain how we will do it at this stage, but is a definate. All up cost was probably under $1000. We had very selective timber for the cupboard section, so not cheap from memory I think about 500. Cabinet maker cost a couple of hundred. Then gyprock etc. It always drew positive comments whenever anyone saw it, so I think it was a definate positive . You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9943 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
