Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 19, 2011 8:18 pm [/color Hi all, Seeking opinion colour of front door. Have recently renovated outside and used primeline chamfer James Hardie in Dulux Dune, White window trims, Woodland grey gutters and roof and grey driveway. I have seen red work wonderfully on alot of those Amercian DIY programs and think it could give my house that "wow" factor as well as make a statement. Q is, what shade of red? Any advice would be great. I'm not into timber doors or white as it gets filthy! Cheers K and T Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 2Jan 19, 2011 8:59 pm Do it, do it, do it! What's NOT to love about any of these? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (Photo from here: http://candyheartsandpaperflowers.blogs ... doors.html) PS. Definitely fire-engine red. No question. (Gee I love making big, bold decisions for other people ) Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 3Jan 19, 2011 9:02 pm How funny was just looking at some of those pics too! My hubyb is sold on the red...though he prefers a blood red, I prefer a bright cheery red. Thanks for that...Im definetly SOLD on the red. Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 8Jan 19, 2011 9:46 pm Our door is blood red. "Redwood". I love it. Excuse the little person blocking the view, it's the only pic I can find (looks a little pinkier in the pic than in real life). Architraves are red too, except the bit on the step (our windows and gutters are woodland grey). Netadelle (sp?) has the same bricks as us, with Manor red door ( i think) and black trims. Looks awesome. GO THE RED!!!
ETA apologies for the big pic.... too computerly challenged to be able to change. Will remove soon. edit *pic removed* RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 9Jan 19, 2011 10:04 pm Ooooh Buzz, very nice. I do like the architraving painted the same colour too. Krissytom, I actually think the white surround will highlight it more IYKWIM, rather than toning it down. The contrast will 'frame' it. Depends what look you are going for. I think the all red gives it more of a modern look. Do you have a picture of the front of your house we can look at? As for my house, how shall I say this? It's still only in my MIND at this point. We have been waiting on banks, financial advisor, and accountants for one year, and now that we finally have the go ahead, for various reasons, our plans have changed at the last minute. Sigh. At least I can stop blaming everyone else for our predicament. The place we are in has so much termite damage that you can see daylight through some of the skirting boards. The previous owners had never done an ounce of maintenance since the day it was built methinks :/ . Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 10Jan 19, 2011 10:15 pm Nice door bee! Haven't a pic at the moment as we"re still in the painting stage but the home is weatherboard with a hamptons feel to it minus the red door! I feel your pain nothing worse than termites! I've seen quite a few red doors when doing a google search and all seem to have the white architrave! Been inspired by the red more so after watching "Curb APpeal" on foxtel. It's an American show but most houses are weatherboard so suit me just nicely and more are painting their doors red! Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 11Jan 20, 2011 1:48 pm No Foxtel here, but given the style of your home, I definitely vote white architrave. We were going to be building with 'American Homes' but have changed our minds. I bet your place is beautiful. Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 13Jan 20, 2011 2:56 pm We were so close to painting our front doors red. I think all that stopped us was the doors being supplied as a stain quality one and we couldn't bear to cover up the nice grain. We had gone as far as picking our colour and were advised to get sign writing paint as it was better suited to outside (more fade resistant) and our door has a westerly aspect. Good luck with your decision. Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 14Jan 20, 2011 3:15 pm Hi Krissytom, Love the red door, I would frame it with white also,Our door is going to be purple framed with white,(unfortunatley no photo's yet)anyone else with different colour doors, love to see photos Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 17Jan 21, 2011 7:36 am Red doors made a statement before every house started doing it. Drive through an estate now. Red, red, red, blue, red, red, timber, red etc. in saying that, its your door. If you like red, go for it! Red, red, red, blue, red, red, timber, red etc. in saying that, its your door. If you like red, go for it! Very true, however not EVERYONE gets a red door right. I am confident I will as it suits the style of home we are decorating. Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 19Jan 23, 2011 9:52 pm I see a red door and I want it painted black - Im sure there are other Stones fans on this forum - it was the first thing I thought off when I read the title to the thread Red door looks great as long as it fits within the overall facade Re: RED DOOR TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT??? 20Jan 24, 2011 8:14 am when i first read this post of painting the door red... i was like uhm, really? would it really have this "wow" factor? not until i saw the pictures... it was beautiful. I'm now thinking of painting my door with red as well... though it depends on the overall facade so i might renovating it first before putting my door in red. I so love it!
