Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 19, 2011 7:10 pm My partner and I purchased a brand new home a year and a half ago. I think it was built approx 2 years ago (or just under). After a recent storm, we have found out that water is getting into the conduit and shorting two of our lines (from the electrical box to the mains power). we have 3phase power. This was advised to us by Energex, who have cut our power due to this. We thought it might be covered by insurance, so we lodged a claim, but the insurance company is telling us that this is not covered since the damage is due to the fault with the conduit. Does anyone know how I should proceed? Someone suggested that the electrical work only has a 12mth warranty - but the guy who did the electrical work told us this. I dont understand how there can be a limit since the work done was not done correctly? Help!! We have now had no power for 4 weeks since the insurance company just knocked back our claim - and now I'm stressed! Re: Water getting into the electrical conduit 2Jan 19, 2011 9:04 pm Is this repairable (I mean without having to go behind the plaster to fish for electrical wires)? Have you got any quotes for repairs? If yes, are they expensive? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Water getting into the electrical conduit 3Jan 20, 2011 9:04 am New homes must have a minimum 7 year warranty (in Vic not sure about other states) Contact your local council to get the name of the builder/developer who built your place if you don't have the certificate of warranty. Re: Water getting into the electrical conduit 5Jan 20, 2011 6:13 pm Best way to fix it-new trench, new conduit, new cable. You can try and suck the water out of the conduit but theres no real point unless you can find and fix the damage so you're not redoing the whole exercise again within a couple of years. To suck the water out best method is a plumber with a suck truck and then get him to do the work, the water is classified as "black" as it is stagnant is disposed of in the same fashion of sewerage. Any idea where the water is getting in? One last thing-have you looked at getting a temporary supply from a builders pole to keep the house running? Might get you out of a pickle until you get it sorted. the conduit would need to be undamaged regardless of what network is in play. The conduit needs to be able to have fibre run through it. NBN and Opticomm are just… 4 2860 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 17858 I use Tramex moisture meter and it will tell me instantly if the wall is cement sheet or plaster or masonite but most people dont have the equipment. 5 7045 |
