Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 17, 2011 3:48 pm I was asked to install a single step down from a grassed area to a jetty. The client specified using a recycled hardwood timber with a tread of 450-500mm and 2400 long and I was going to use a width of 50mm. Currently I haven't been able to find a piece of recycled timber to fit these dimensions and purchased two pieces at 200-250 x 2400 x 50 Was just wondering, is it against industry standard to use two pieces of timber for a single step/landing of this dimension or alternatively does anyone know where a single piece of recycled hardwood in these dimensions can be purchased. Many Thanks Boe Re: landing platform/step 2Jan 17, 2011 4:57 pm You will be fine with that size. It's not uncommon to build the treads out of even smaller pieces, say 100mm-150mm or 4-6" in the old language. Just leave a 3mm gap between boards for water to get through. Good luck finding a single piece of hardwood 450-500x50mm that the client wont fall over when you tell them the price. Anything that large that is in good shape will command big dollars Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: landing platform/step 4Jan 17, 2011 11:48 pm Yes.
